Ticking

I have a 2014 and have noticed a ticking sound not really a knocking when I first start up the car in the mornings (around 5:40am) this is the only time it does it. I work 12hrs shifts at a hospital and at end of shift it does not do it, only in the mornings and it only does it for about 15/20 seconds. Could this be the start to a more serious issue? I have 123k miles getting ready to have my plugs changed out.

Hello. The ticking sound might come from the hydraulic valve adjusters which are filled with engine oil. If the engine oil has wrong specifications or it is in bad shape (used too much), then the valve adjusters work badly and they tick until they fill up correctly with oil.
The ticking sound may be louder/noticeable when the engine oil is cold (in the mornings).
This is one of the possible parts that could "tick"

I don’t know what those are I guess it’s off to see a mechanic.
What engine oil do you use ? (brand, viscosity, spec.) And how "old" is your engine oil you are currently using ?
I think it’s Mobile 1 and it’s 0w-20 and roughly 5000 miles on it. The oil has its original color.
That oil is OK. I use Mobile 1 0W-20 ILSAC GF-6A too and I have no problem. Try to bring it to the mechanic and mainly tell him that it does the ticking sound when the engine/car is completely cold.

Okay thank you.
