I was thinking of getting the CT200h as my first car, just want to know what you CT owners think?

Most of us like our cars. Some a lot. Some with reservations. Just like any other car. The mileage is a huge plus. The style and finish are good. The audio system stinks, IMO. Could use more power and some luxury items were deleted since it is based on the Prius.

Overall plus.
Driving conditions are different in Australia and we don't all run around in big V8s. However, after two years with my CT I think I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I have been beaten off the mark at the traffic lights. The CT is not a high performance car, but from 0-60km/ph it can be hard to beat. One contributor to this Forum wrote that his CT was faster 0-60km/ph (or similar) than his Porsche. Remember off the mark you can get all the ICE and all the electric power that the CT has got.

I hate to tell you that 0-60 is the CT is the worst part. Passing at highway speeds is good in the car but if you truly think the CT is faster 0-60 than most cars in the road including a Porsche then you need to get your head checked. 10 seconds to 60 is pathetic. The reason why youre beating most cars off the line us because you're the only one racing.

I guess I wasn't referring to full-on drag races but on reflection that would probably be the American way, and I suppose one of the 6 litre, 10mpg, tyre-burning pieces of Detroit iron cleans everything up. Don't gratuitously insult me with reference to the Porsche story. I am only quoting from a previous contributor. Finally, after two years ownership, I continue to find my CT200 F quite quick from 0-35mph with its combination of full power from the Internal Combustion engine, 650 W battery power and seamless automatic transmission.

great MPG's, awesome styling inside and out (except for the 2014...hate the front end), not quick but quick enough, but just like every car out there some will love it and some will hate it. you just have to decide for yourself.

Detecting a little confusion between km/h and mph here :). I'd agree with Prosperity, very little beats the CT off the mark up to about 30 mph (60kp/h being about 38mph) but it runs out of steam after that. 10 secs to 60 isn't great but the lightning rapidity off the traffic lights was appreciated !

Hi Christea, thought I'd add a little more now I'm away from a nasty work browser (IE8) that doesn't play nice with carriage returns ... :D

I've just changed away from a CT200h and the only reason is because the IS300h is much better. That said though, the CT200h is a very high quality car in its own right. Mine was excellent and I'd thoroughly recommend someone getting one :

Excellent road manners (honestly, better than the IS but that's just me getting used to 220bhp rather than 135bhp)
Hatchback flexibility
The Lexus effect - quality inside and out
The Lexus effect - customer service from the dealers rather than the hateful disservice you typically get from Audi, BMW garages (at least over here)
Hybrid reliability - faults (outside the engine mount design flaw fixed early in the CT's life) unheard of. Turbo diesel reliability ? Of the 4 turbo cars the family's owned, 2 have broken their turbo.
Toy count = High. (Mine was the UK spec SE-L with navigation)

I'd thoroughly recommend both the CT and the new IS. However, as a first car, I'd steer you to the CT due to it having less power. In the CT, it didn't really matter which driving mode you used as it had good road manners in Eco, Normal and Sport. The IS is more of a beast, I've not got the knack of driving it smoothly yet at low speeds. I.e. hop-hopping on the brakes while slowing down for lights. If it's your first car, the insurance people will definitely prefer you driving the 135bhp 10sec to 60 CT rather than the 220bhp 8sec to 60 IS !

Also, the CT is 3 years old now so used ones should be coming in with all the depreciation gone from the price. My 3 year old CT was in as-new condition when I passed it on.

When I first got the CT, I drove it in Sport mode for about a week while I adjusted to the driving dynamics. Now, I'm mostly in Normal mode and getting 51.9 mpg. Chasing that elusive 52.

Test drive the car in sport mode and see if you can live with it.

That is an excellent suggestion. I enjoyed my CT200h very much, especially when the time came to see that I was averaging around 47 mpg. In that respect it is the best combination of luxury feel, stylish looks and great mpg. Sorry to say that I only drove my CT
in the Sport mode for the last week that I owned it, and I was very impressed with the cars capability to scoot, while the mileage dropped to a mere 41 mpg in city stop and go driving. BTW - love the new commercial with the white CT and what looks to be a newly designed all glass moonroof.

That's a great suggestion. I owned my CT for a year and thoroughly enjoyed the stylish look, comfortable interior, and the 47 mpg's that I got. Sadly, only during the last week that I owned the car did I get to enjoy driving the CT in the Sport mode, and if I had to do it again I would have probably kept the car instead of trading it in for a car with much more cargo space.

Seeing the new commercials with the White CT, with what looks like a full moonroof, I am sure that sometime in the future I am going to consider purchasing another one. Hope the price of hybrids comes down some by then, and also Lexus listens to its owners who clearly are united in the fact that the sound system needs to improve a great deal.

Actually, I was the member who said the CT is faster than my Porsche. My95tsi, you really haven't a clue what you're talking about.
i said it's faster from 0-50 kph. And that makes sense.

Despite this, I wouldn't recommend buying the CT - see my next thread on this...

my95tsi you haven't a clue what you're talking about. Not sure why you even bother posting.

I was the one who said the CT is faster than my 2008 Porsche Boxster. FROM 0 - 40 kph. Not 0-60 MPH. Look up the difference if you don't know it.

This makes sense, because the electric motor torque and CVT easily beat most cars to about 40 kph. Kind of cool, and 100% of reviewers miss it, because everyone just talks about 0-60 mph times. I spoke to Dan Neil at the Wall Street Journal about this and he agreed.

Despite this, I would NOT buy the CT again and would NOT recommend it. Read my next post if you want to know why.
I'm glad to have my own individual look

Hi there-

I'm not sure if you've already purchased the CT200h, but I leased my first one a couple of weeks ago. I had a 2013 Lexus SUV, but was looking for a vehicle with lower payments and greater gas mileage; this certainly fit the bill. I knew going into it that it would not perform the same way the SUV did and that I'd lose some features. I certainly do not regret my decision. You can select from a few different driving modes to maximize your fuel. I drove the first couple weeks in ECO mode and I'm now trying SPORT mode to see if its really that different. I'm 6-1 and comfortable in the car. It handles well and looks great. I'd be happy to answer any questions if you're looking for a newbies opinion.

All the best!
I really like my '14 CT as well. Seems like they really improved the sound system. In sport mode it can really get off the line quick. I'm getting around 51 mpg in normal mode.
