I've seen a few posts, but no real answers.. Has anyone simply tried to upgrade the Sub, in the premium audio package, and not the amp?

Thanks!

Why would you do it without an amp?

An underdriven larger sub isn't going to help much at all. The stock one is made for a tiny 6.5" sub!

Putting a proper 10" sub in a proper enclosure and trying to power it with the stock amp is like putting an air-cooled 50s VW bug engine into a Nissan GT-R and then wondering what went wrong.

Stick a crowbar in the wallet and shell out for at least an inexpensive used amp. :\

My Audio guy suggested it would be OK to do (in the UK). He recommended a focal active subwoofer that is 25cm. He raved about this but they are quite pricey for the power rating. I never auditioned this sub.

I ended up going for a flat pioneer sub driven by a separate amp - there's plenty of room in the boot for both with everything hidden (and wiring v simple as the battery is in the boot too). Makes a huge difference to SQ (this is not the Mark Levinson system though).
