Hi guys,

This is my very first post!
I need some help with a noise I'm hearing inside the cabin of my CT.
It just started when I hit around 1,500 miles. The noise it's making sounds like the ringing you would get in your ears after you would leave a loud concert or party. I noticed it makes it when you are at a stop while pressing on the brake and while driving with or without braking. It's really annoying and need to have the radio on so I don't go crazy. I can definitely say its not coming through the audio system because it still does it when it's off.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Roy

Is it a high pitch sound while the car is in motion? First time I heard this same irritating sound was a few months after I got the car. Had the dealer checked it but according to their specialist it's from the hybrid system. Most hybrids from Toyota & Lexus make this high pitch sound. They even let me test drive another CT from the lot and it too had the noise.

My advice is roll up your windows and crank up your tunes to drown the noise. :)

Eventually you'll get used to the noise and learn to ignore it. I have.

Thanks for the quick reply. I figured that's something the dealer would say if I took it there. I guess I'm going to have to take your advice and crank up those tunes...lol

So I guess it's safe to say the noise is probably permanent?

It's just strange that it didn't make the noise until now. I've had my CT a little under a month.

Thanks again for your help.

DC5ROY: This is exactly what happened to me last year after a month or so of ownership! When I called I got the "that's the regen braking" reply but I knew it wasn't as it would make the squeel even when I was not moving so I took it in and then got the "that's the hybrid system" reply but no one could give me an answer as to why it never happened in the first couple of months. I always have music playing and sort of got used to it last year but I do notice it once in a while. Now I try to convince myself that it's a unique sound that makes me and my hydrid stand out ;)

Thanks guys for all your input. It makes me feel a little better about the situation knowing its not something wrong with my car.
I have to say I feel really good about joining this forum considering the great responses I received as soon as I posted this thread. I also have an IS300 as my weekend warrior and it seems like the CT community is just as great as the IS one.
Thanks again.

I also get a strange (but different) noise when I come back to the car after not driving it for a few hours, like in the morning getting ready to go to work. When I unlock and open the driver door I hear this grinding type noise. I know nothing is actually grinding but its like a low pitched groan. I'm sure its normal, just not something your normally hear from a car.

DC5ROY,
As one opionion -- do you only hear it when travelling at slow speeds? I wonder if what you're hearing is the Audible Pedestrian Warning "sound" (not it's official name)? I hear this when I am pulling into and out of my garage or travelling as slow speeds with the windows down. It's similiar to the cartoon sounds that the Jetson's vehicle made.

It will do it at all speeds wether I'm accelerating or braking.

After reading the thread, I tried really hard to listen to the "hybrid system sound". I even rolled down the windows. I cannot hear anything. But that doesn't mean it is not there. I am really good at tuning out noise. I remember hearing the hybrid breaking sound when I had the car for the first week. Now I don't hear it at all unless someone new to the car sitting at the passenger seat pointing it out to me.

I've had my '12 CT for just about a week now. I absolutely love it. But -- I am also experiencing this weird high-pitched electrical noise at low speeds and especially when braking. What in the world is it? It's very annoying and definitely putting a damper in my excitement about this otherwise-great vehicle! Is there any way of getting rid of this noise?

I still don't know what it is exactly, but it annoys me too. I guess after about a year, I'm more used to it. It is not as bad if you have the windows up and I play music more often then I ever used to. It' might prevent me from buying another hybrid though if the same noise is there or it doesn't get moderated somewhat with a new model. Seems like we have to live with it. Others can't even hear it as they've lost hearing in that range I guess.

I've heard that sound too. Its pretty low volume. Like someone else said, its for the pedestrians to hear. My girlfriend noticed the sound from outside the car and asked me about it. That's what I told here it is. Also when it's in the electric mode the speed control is electronic. And from my experience with R/C cars I've heard electronic speed controls emit a little whine too. So it could be something like that too. I only hear it when the stereo is off and it doesn't bother me anyway.

The high pitched "tone" is from the hybrid power inverter and the "groan" is a vacuum pump preparing the brake system for initial use.

The sound we are hearing is not the Vehicle Proximity Notification. My 2011 is not equipped with it. I have no idea if it is what you are hearing.

I've always heard the high pitched noise. I test drove a couple different ones, they all made the same noise. (That being said, I have pretty acute senses compared to most people. ie, smelling things other people don't notice when I do or hearing things others miss.)

My 2011 CT200h is a little over a year old with almost 18,000 miles and is very, very quiet. It does not make any of the sounds mentioned in this thread. I understand because of parts tolerances , not all cars are going to have the same level of quietness, but Lexus has set their threshold too high. Sorry you guys have to suffer from Lexus policy.

I've had my CT for about 6 months and I've brought it back to the dealer a half dozen times because of this sound. It's awful. Every time I brake and every time I hit the gas I get this feedback like sound. Almost like something isn't grounded properly. They keep telling me that it is normal.

If the CT I test drove made the same sound I would not have bought the car. That's the bottom line.

We are paying for Lexus quality and we are not getting that. This really stinks IMO.
