Skipped 15K Check-Up...Now What???

3443 Views 9 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxhookah66
Time has flown by, and the miles on my CT has racked up to 18K now. I'm wondering what I should do? Take my CT in for the 15K anyway or just wait it out until the 20K. What would you do? Are there things you would do separately (change air/cabin filter and rotate tires) and THEN do 20K check up? Help!

I'd take it to my Lexus dealer and do what I was told.
Look under page 49 of your warranty and service guide and it tells you what to check for 15,000 miles checkup. It is just a whole of check this and check that and rotate the tires. If you are already at 18k, you might just as well wait for the 20k I think.
Take it to your Lexus dealer and take their advise, not ours! Better that they have all your records and service up-to-date. It bodes well in the future.
You can do service yourself and still maintain warranty. I do. Save any receipts for parts (like oil and filters).

Checking the fluids, rotating tires, and checking the floor mats (!) and whatever else is required at 15K shouldn't be a problem if done at 18K.
I called the dealership at 15,000 miles to inquire about the service and whether it was actually necessary. The response I got back from the Service Manager was, "see you at 20,000".

Sounds good :D

For info - in the UK, the CT is listed as 10,000 miles or annual servicing as its interval. So 5,000 mile interval seems a bit overkill (unless there's local conditions that make 5,000 a good idea). It's good to have a Service Manager agreeing with that though :)
I would take it in. Don't mess with your warranty.
If you happen to miss the 10k service as well, I would recommend that you go in and get this sorted sooner than later. However, if you did the 10k and you're using synthetic oil, you're gonna be fine to wait another 1k miles or so. You could always do your 20k early and just have them get you caught up as well.
Just watch out for engine oil service interval. Remember that here in the US, we got the dirtiest gas in the world with highest sulfur content. Lexus does not specify any long life service synthetic oils in their spec's like bmw/mb (LL04 designation) but don't be sloppy about engine oil service intervals. I guess initially it should be done at 5K and 10K thereafter. The little 1.8L Atknison engine is quite capable, but it is does not like acidity of high sulfur our gasoline here in the US.
