SiriusXM... WOW talk about incompetence

So I finally got around to giving the XM radio a bit more attention because I wasn't seeing traffic info and I was under the impression that the 90 day trial came with it.

I called Sirius XM and the first guy I talked to was utterly incompetent. He couldn't get the Nav traffic added to my account and used the usual ploy of "the system is down" to try to get me off the phone. I don't buy that when I hear people fumbling on the phone and asked to speak with a supervisor. He put me on hold and then came back about 10 minutes later and just hung up the phone.

I call back and ask to speak with supervisor immediately. The guy says sure thing, but first let's try to add the nav while we wait. Seems reasonable. Surprise surprise, he gets it added. Mind you, by this time, it is bedtime so I don't check it in the car, but on-line it shows on my account.

Morning comes and during the commute I try to take a look at the icon and nothing. No traffic info.

So I call SiriusXM during the ride home and get the signal refreshed. Nothing. Wait another 15 minutes, nothing

I call back. The woman congratulates me on my new Escalade. Whoa... Escalade? I say to her, I have a Lexus, that's probably what's wrong. So she types in a few more things and nothing. Still no signal. She transfers me to a "technician." This idiot tries to convince me that I simultaneously have a loose wire and that the Nav is down for everyone because of the upcoming channel change thing. I don't buy it.

He insists I have to take it back to the dealer because a wire is loose. I smell bullpoop. I tell him that is probably not it since the XM radio works, it is just the Nav Traffic that isn't coming through. I ask to speak with his supervisor... another 10 minute hold.

Next woman is the same story. AGAIN, congratulates me on the Escalade and AGAIN I try to correct that. She is also CONVINCED that there is something wrong with the car and that I need to take it back to the dealer. I ASSURE her she is full of crap because the radio works fine and it is the same signal.

Finally I get frustrated and just tell her, "look, based on this there is no way I'm renewing this once it is done, you people are absolutely incompetent."

Suddenly, she says, "wait, there is a special line for Lexus owners" and gives me the following line: 1-877-209-5087.

I smell Bull again but what the hey, one more try. I call and tell the next woman who answers the whole story. Guess what? She agrees with me. It is THEIR problem and not the car! I then tell her about the Escalade thing and she looks though the tickets and finds a typo! Wrong VIN number on the account! She corrects that and then refreshes the signal.

BAM. Traffic info!

I thank her profusely and tell her that all these clowns before her should be fired and that she should get a raise.

So basically, when met with a challenge, SiriusXM's response is to just try to get you off the phone.

On the up side, I love the car aside from this experience.

I've already told them I won't be signing up for the satellite radio. There isn't a single station that even remotely resembles my taste in music. Especially if I can stream Pandora directly to the system.

I like a lot of different stuff. I can find stations that will occasionally play a song I like, but they surround it with 95% of stuff that insults my intelligence.

I like:

Alternative Country (For Example:Old 97's, Drive-By Truckers, Uncle Tupelo)
Power Pop (New Pornographers, Rockpile, Sloan)
Old Soul (Van Morrison, Stax/Volt)
Old Reggae (Desmond Dekker, Toots)
Old School Punk (Clash, Rancid)

Like I said, there's a few stations that might play a song or two I like, but without enough frequency to justify paying for it (especially when I've got my free Pandora stations set up perfectly).

Same Experience!

I had the EXACT same experience. Took 4 hours over 2 days to resolve! Finally for my time they gave me a "free" 3 month trial for xm and traffic! I tried to explain to them that my car already cam with this, but by that time I was so frustrated and sick of talking to them that I just gave up, accepted my "gift" and went on with my day.

My traffic works, however the weather info doesn't. Does yours work? Maybe it time for me to complain and get 3 free months.

Is it possible to just get traffic info? I too prefer my own music, xm is a bit annoying.

I'll say this 'IF' my weather is working the way its supposed to it is worthless. Complete downpour yesterday and all I get is where I'm at on the map with no signs of rain on the satalite map.

So I decided that weather, traffic, Stocks etc. I will not be signing up for.

I tried the weather this morning and it appeared to be pretty accurate for Boston, but then again, it wasn't really exciting weather...

Funny thing was that only the last person told me that the package was supposed to have weather as part of the trial.

So this morning I did my first commute with the traffic and I was actually really surprised at how little information it gives. Only the major highways seem to be listed. Does anyone know if the regular street traffic is just not displayed or whether this is intended more for just highway driving.

Frankly, it just doesn't seem worth it for daily commuting because it just doesn't seem to give the info I would need to avoid the usual traffic I see...

At this rate I think I'm just going to go with the music for XM... love me that 80s only channel!!!

Only highways and only in major cities. Would only benefit me if I was traveling.

Start with their earliest stuff, I think it's the best. Bear in mind that they are decidedly less serious than DBT or the dour UT. Also, if you're not familiar with Slobberbone, seek them out. Quite possibly the best band that has ever graced the face of the earth.

Sorry to threadjack...

Love XM, I have always had good sound and it is nice to listen to the same station from coast to coast. I have had XM for about 6 years. When I am in the car, I rarely listen to anything else. I don't know why you are having sound quality problems. Maybe it is the radio and not XM.

No weather info for me, it says I am not subscribed for that feature... odd for a trial period.

As for XM, I don't know why, but the sound quality coming out of XM is not as clear/crisp as the CD/MP3 I put together and/or when streaming through my Droid or Iphone. Do you notice the same?

I too found the sound quality begging on the SAT talk radio channels. My previous experience was a Sirius Sportster 5 using a cassette to car setup. I am so happy to be rid of the external device that I have accepted the quality.

While not a 100% solution, I discovered that you can set different audio balance levels for each AM, FM, SAT, etc.
