I have a car on order which I hope is really ordered. I am getting the Nuluxe because I like the caramel color and don't care whether it's leather or not. Now, a dealer has the same exterior color I want, Pearl White, with black leather and some more options...it has the LED lights I want and Prem Stereo, NAV, covenience group, light up door sills and the car stickers at $38, 770. He also charges a $600 dealer fee in addition to not taking a penny off the sticker price. My ordered car has NO dealer fee, stickers at about 37,500 and I'm probably buying for around $36,400...with NO dealer fee but it is a long wait to have it built...assuming it really is ordered (dealer says it is). The dealer who has the more expensive car in stock says grab it while you can because they are getting harder to get...I don't turn my lease in until 3rd week in June...I have time to wait for my car to be built and besides I gave a small deposit to that dealer (don't mind because I can get the deposit back 100%). I am thinking...wait for the car to be built (the one I want with LED's and Nuluxe) and if by late May, there isn't any info, then start shopping and just pay list at that time if I have to...besides, by then, the cars have been out awhile and they may be discounting them a little bit. The dealer who said buy his now was painting a picture that he says is typical where a dealer will give you a great price or tell you he can order you a car and take a deposit (to take you out of the market for shopping for a car somewher else) and make empty promises that he can't deliver...Any thoughts on this???

Wait, CT's are not becoming hard to get. You ordered the color you want, don't be pressured into something you might regret because of FUD.

These cars will start sitting on lots, inventories will increase, pricing will drop. Simple S&D.

besides, the way I look at it, my SUV is costing me $668/month to drive and I"m paying .15c/mile over right now...so, if by June a car isn't ready that had been ordered, I can rent some car with unlimited mileage for less than I'm paying now based on a monthly or weekly rate...I think you are right about waiting...dealers sometimes try to scare you into acting immediately.

IMHO, nothing looks better than the White/Black combo on this car. I'd tell the dealer to forget about the ridiculous $600 markup and to knock another $1000 off the price just for insulting you.

Tell him if he meets those conditions, you will buy immediately. Otherwise, wait (but change your order to White/Black).

can't change the order...it is ordered..besides, I like the two tone interior or black panels with the caramel...reminds me of the Audi A6 interior I had back on my 2005 A6...gorgeous as far as my opinion of it. The dealers down here are REALLY playing up the whole catastrophe thing as far as availability and pricing...this is the scare to buy tactic of a lifetime for them..."buy now while you can still get one"...c'mon I say...it's a Lexus hatchback...there will be plenty soon enough...I would really LOVE to get my hands on a CT200h Plug-in car next year...if it's anything like the Prius (which I"m sure it will be...can you imagine driving up to about 65 MPH in FULL ELECTRIC mode for about 13 miles maximum or more?)...that would be amazing....then, the only problem for some would be wondering if the fuel they DON'T use goes bad after so much time

The $600 markup is unreasonable. Production will pick up gradually from Toyota. It depends if you want the car ASAP or can you wait it out for a few months.
I have the 200h premium/Starfire Pearl/Navigation/Premium sound/Nulux black interior for 3 weeks now. Love it. The best looking and performing hybrid vehicle out there. At 45mpg it eases the gas pump pain considerably from a 20mpg SUV.

The white/caramel nuluxe is my favorite combo. I lurk in this forum, not having decided yet whether this was the car for me. I was the first one to test drive it when it came in town, I think. Now, I've pretty much decided, after looking at a # of cars. No car has excited me like this one did. I'll be getting the white/caramel nuluxe. (Black interior is sharp, too, but I prefer the black interior with the red exterior and other colors...not the white.)

As for availability, there are no white/caramel here in town to be had. All sold out.

I hope production picks up, or it'll be next year before I buy, I guess. Production may be slow, though, if the factories are just getting going. And no doubt they're having personnel issues with the disaster and all.

Part of the reason I didn't buy right away because this would be an MSRP, or close to it, deal, and I didn't like that at all. I certainly wouldn't buy with a markup, even though I can understand a dealer taking advantage of the situation. That's business, I guess. I'd wait, though, since you can. Good things come to those who wait, they say.:)

(Other reasons I didn't buy: the prices and the packages and accessories kept changing; no door molding. Now door molding is available, I believe.)

Hmmmm.....I was told yesterday, by the only dealer within about 150 miles from me, that the plant has closed, and the only cars which will be available are the ones in transit.....and that nearly all of those are already sold. So far, I have not even been able to see on in person, let alone drive one. I think I really want one, but it is beginning to look like it will not happen for a long time, if ever.

That 7.1 magnitude earthquake that just hit Japan. I hope it doesn't make an already horrible supply problem worse. My best goes out to Japan.

I just called the main number for Lexus and spoke to a guy who seemed to know what was happening and seemed familiar with the whole ordering process. He told me no interruptions in production and orders for cars are prioritized before cars built for inventory. He told me even with what has happened, figure 6-8 weeks from when the order is received to get a car. Also, he confirmed no information on ordered cars until it is built and a VIN# is given to the dealership where car was ordered from. They are no longer taking orders at this time but will fill the current ones received (felt good about that)....and, he said no buyer's order can be filled out without a VIN#...so, I gave the deposit which is what is normally done and have to just WAIT it out.

+600 is a bit steep. If you can recoup that some how with some added extended warranty or service or low interest rates, it might be worth it. But at this point it's your call on how much you want the car. I was able to get mine with discounts but if I had to do it again I would pay the MSRP. Depending how you are going to purchase the car, financing wise 600 would probably just only add $10 +/- a month.
