Hello allI am new to this forum and just joined. I have ordered my ct200h 2012 - supposedly arriving the week of 20th Oct. - Oh can't wait.Lexus dealer tried to sell me the chipprotect which is like a thin 3M film to protect front bumber/hood/headlights/side mirrors. They need $ 1395 for this. Is this worth it ? as seems kind of a lot...any pearls of wisdom ?

Any protection is better and nothing. Check around for a better price. The dealer is always way too high. I've had film protection on the hood of every I've owned for the past 10 years and well worth the money.

Wow, for that price, you can have the hood repainted.

I Assume this is the same protection film that was offered on the 2011 model.

I believe my local dealer was offering it for less than $500 and I really didn't like it. To me it just made it look like I had a large scratch across the nose of the car where the edge of the film was.

parshre - Are you from Canada or is that in US dollars? I paid $695 dealer installed for the 2 side mirros, front hood (1/3 of the way up) and the entire front bumper was done. Autobahn is the brand the dealer used.

I had mine done (font hood, mirrors, rocker panel and front edge of roof) at the place that does them for dealers - a company called Chip Guard. Total price was about $500. Seek out who does it for the dealer and get it done there. The dealer is making a killing on stuff like that.

If you go on the Lexus site you will find that the suggested price is $429:

Paint protection film [30] $429 [31] $429 [31]

They saw you coming. Even if they put the film on every possible surface I don't see how they can triple the price.

While there are definite advantages to the film, and I am going to get it on the CT I have ordered, on my 2004 Thunderbird I had the 3M film put on the front bumper and hood and after about 4 years it started crazing and discoloring. The company that I bought it from was allegedly out of business (Invinca Shield?) and I couldn't find my receipt anyway but the people who installed it said they weren't using that material any more and I had a 4 year warranty that had just expired. It cost me more to have it removed than it did to have it put on because even heated it would only come off in tiny pieces and it resulted in lots of little scratches.

I still am going to get it because it saved me several chips, I should have paid more attention to it and the one for the CT from the dealer carries a Lexus warranty, but be careful to apply wax from the material to the paint so there is no buildup of wax residue on the edges and as soon as it starts crazing have it removed and replaced.

I bought a 3M clear Bra form ebay for $240 shipped. Watch a couple videos the seller send me. Decided to tackle the installation myself since I had experiences with clear shields on my ipad and iphones. Its pretty straightforward except larger pieces. The front bumper is the hardest due to the curves on the CT. Its not an easy DIY. Require patience and more patience. Would I do it again? Of course. Especially seening my last car with more front end paint chips than I care to count. I don't find the line on the hood noticiable unless you really looking for it.

Definitely a good product if you do a lot of highway driving. I paid $800 for mine, lifetime warranty. No yellowing or shrinking. The $429 price is only if applied at the factory. Haven't seen any with that option. Doubt any dealers will honor it.

windshield protection also ?

If you do a lot of driving you may want to also consider windshield protection. The Lexus CT200h windshield is expensive to replace because of the windshield wiper de-icer embedded wires, around $1,200

All CT200hs have the windshield wiper de-icer. For non-nav it is a separate button to the left of the steering wheel. On nav systems it is a button on the "climate" screen; no separate physical button.

I drive a lot on the highway and Houston highways are bad. I have at least a star hit on every windshield. I bought protection from Lexus for 5 years for replacement up to 5 times at a cost of $695.

I did not opt for the chip protection, but maybe I should have?

I never recommend installing anything from Lexus dealer except this one.
CT hood is very low, and can be easily hit by small stone, etc.

Clear bra really protected mine once when I drove on freeway, the clear bra was broken  but hood and paint was OK. Lexus reinstall the clear bra for very little charge, :p I feel so lucky that my CT has this protection.

You should bargain the price, drag it down within 1k. good luck.:D
