This has happened twice in pass two days.

I live in Seattle, the temperature was about 94 - 95 in past two days. I drove CT back home with A/C on, I parked my car in garage with all windows and doors closed, then I drove to local store about 30 - 60 minutes later.
I saw the battery was almost full, but the battery fan sounded VERY VERY LOUD even at stop sign ​

, I also felt the pulsation feeling when I push the gas pedal. ​

,(something like lost power intermediately) I stopped the car, and when to back seat to feel the battery vent temperature, it was very cool actually. ​

My wife told me to shut down the car, I restarted it about 30 seconds later, the MOST WIRED thing happened, the battery displayed almost empty (purple color) immediately, but battery fan became quiet then and the car ran normal afterward.

This happened twice already, I reported it to Lexus dealer, the technician had no idea what was wrong.

Does anyone experience it before?​

sorry. battery fan sound? are you talking about the sound you hear when you start your car (the sound that dies down a minute after start up?)

because if that's what you are talking about I've had the sound come up in the middle of the drive which sometime scares me a bit but I don't think it's anything out of the ordinary

It's hybrid battery intake vent that is located between right rear seat and door, I'm pretty much sure the (fan) noise coming from it.

Hello. I don't own the ct200h yet. I'm still driving a prius, but both cars are the same in most features.

I think there is nothing wrong with your car. 95ºF = 34ºC ...pretty hot.

Driving into the city makes the car (and its battery) achieve higher temps than driving in a highway.

So your battery reached temps over 40ºC for sure.

The fan you heard has 1 to 6 different speed. Positions 1 and 2 you'll not hear. Position 3 you can hear if the car interior is quiet. The rest of positions make a very noticeable noise.


A last AND VERY IMPORTANT THING: NEVER NEVER NEVER cover the grill in the back seat. Don't let anybody sit nearby or put clothes on it.

Some prius taxicab are experiencing battery failures here in Spain because the fan is full of dust, locks, fluff... and the battery cooling failed. This only happened to taxi cars because they drive a lot of miles with people sat in the back.

Hi Rehabmax - this one's a known issue. Mine had it too when I was checking it out at the dealer. A dealer should be able to replace it for you, mine hasn't had the handle fall off since the handover from the dealer.

Back to OP - sounds like a connection is loose

Call your dealer, let them know and set up a time to bring it in. There is a service bulletin to replace the handle, it shouldn't cost you anything. I had mine replaced and haven't had an issue with it coming off since doing so. They may have to order the part if they don't have it in stock which will take a couple days.

OP, when you parked your car in your garage for 30-60 min... is it possible that you forgot to turn off your car? You could have drain your battery or put it in a funny state. Then you drove in hot weather (95 is not really that hot.. it has been 106 here for the last 2 weeks), and it probably need heat up the battery with AC and everything.

Other than that I don't know what else to tell you. I don't think it has to do with hot weather as I said I drove in 105-107 for over 2 hours everyday this last 2 weeks. And I don't feel anything different about the car.

It's been in the 100's in the Bay Area last few weeks and I haven't noticed any loss of battery charge or power. Car is parked in the sun all day while I am at work and no issues except HOT in side. I will be getting some window tint next week. Forgot how hot a black interior can get. I am impressed with the AC on the CT it works great. Glad the temps are getting back to normal only in the 90's now.

Search this board - there are MANY posts about this handle problem. You can get the handle replaced under warranty.

I'm going to have to say the same as some post here in California. The only topper I have is that I have been in the desert in 114 to 116 degrees and have not any problems with heat to noise problems. Now the not getting burned by the steering wheel and the metal seatbelt buckle that another thing.
