Remote Start Question

21583 Views 34 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  NewShockerGuy
I ordered the remote start from the dealer and the accessories manager insisted the it involved a second key fob. (1 smart key, 1 for remote start).

Looking on the Lexus website under CT accessories, I see that the remote start is said to be integrated into the smart key.

I was curious if any one got the dealer installed remote start and if so, whether there is a second key fob for it.

Thanks.

remote strater answer

I picked up my CT this past Friday and had the dealer install the remote starter. The smart key is programed to start the car. You press the lock button two concecutive times and than hold the button the third time the car's lights flash 3 times and the car starts. No extra farb is needed. Sounds like that dealer was installing an after market remote starter not from lexus. Hope this info helps.
Same here when I had the dealerr install the remote start on my Highlander Hybrid. Same remote and just push the buttons the existing remote. On the CT it was already installed and it's all off the one fob.
Mm.. my dealer in Canada saying that they are not able to install the remote car starter...

Who are you talking to the salesman (who really don't know) or Parts & Service. It's a simple install, if I recall it's a module and some wires.
I spoke to the accessories person at the dealership where I'm awaiting a CT. I was told Lexus has yet to give the official approval for the installation of the official remote start in the CT. Any dealer that has installed it already has done it without clearance from Lexus. I was told, since it's a new model, they should get clearance to be able to install the part soon, but not yet. I was told this same issue came up when the HS was released; Lexus didn't give the official 'ok' to install the remote start right away either. The accessories person thus offered me a third-party remote start.
Yea.. my dealer said they had tried couple models, and none of them are working too well, so.. he said there's nothing available for me at the moment.. but I don't really buy what he said haha..
I really really need a remote car starter.. since where I'm at, the temp can get down to -40C during winter..
May I ask, how much did you pay for the remote car starter??
Thanks a bunch.
The advantage of a third-party remote start vs. lexus one is that it has a greater distance. Supposedly, the integrated lexus remote start has a poor distance.

The disadvantage is having to carry the extra key fob.

..xyip, i sent you a private message
I'm a fan of remote start too. I was looking at maybe doing the Viper so i could do it from my cell phone since I am frequently out of the range of the manufacturer. Only problem is that I heard the cell phone remotes dont work well with Lexus. Anyone else thinking of doing the cell phone start? And what have you heard? Does anyone have one?

You can hand them this installation manual: http://lexus.sewellparts.com/pdf/PT39876111.pdf

Perhaps they dont have the programming device, but if its a lexus dealer I must say that it sound odd!

Good luck!
I'm going to get a Viper that starts with cell phone. All the wiring needed is not available yet. As soon as the dealer receives it, get it installed. Then i"ll let you know.
Remote Start

Thanks for the info. in this thread. Dropped my car off this evening for the remote start install tomorrow. Glad to see the starter is integrated in the key faab.

Thanks Maxa. Dealer said they can't do the orignal car starter is because of the cold weather. According to him.. it failed to function when it is getting below a certain temperature. I also hope to use the smartphone starter as well, but seeing some bad feedback on low temperature issues as well. Well.. I will keep looking.
I too was told by the Lexus Parts Dept that they are unable to install the Lexus Remote start. It isn't showing up in their system yet apparently. However, he did say that they can install an after market remote that would have greater range. In addition he is telling me that it would be able to operate off of the Lexus starter fob, so would not require carrying an extra fob. He is running down the details and will call me back tomorrow.
Hmmm, this "failing to function in cold weather" thing is starting to worry me. Kind of defeats the purpose of a remote starter. I'll have to see come December/February...good news is if this OEM starter doesn't function, I can complain and get remedied/replaced under warranty.
Lexus Remote Start

For those of you that have had the OEM Remote Starter installed by the local dealership, could you please post the dealership name and location? My local dealer says the Lexus Remote Start is not available as a dealer installed accessory. It has to be installed at the factory. They can install an after market remote, but not the Lexus remote integrated with the car fob. If I can get a dealership name I can have my dealer contact them for the information. Thanks!

Mine was installed at the port (they don't do at the dealership I bought from).
Just heard back from my dealer regarding the auto start and they said they'd do it there. Herb Chambers Lexus in Sharon, MA
