It was just one of those days..:(
I accidentally pressed the Power button before putting the car in Park, twice in the same day. I was at a complete stop (just pulled into a parking spot), and everything seemed okay when I powered on again. Does powering off the hybrid before putting it in park do any damage to the transmission or other parts of the car if the car is not in motion?

I have done this many times. From a couple of other threads I've read, some people do this on purpose so they can remember to turn off their car. I don't think it does any harm to your car as long as you're at a complete stop... but what do I know. I'm not a mechanic.

Shouldn't be a problem - the electronic brains will put it in Park when the car is powered down.

I almost always put it in Park though before hitting the button. I'll also set the Parking brake due to the tendency to foll forward maybe a foot. But the main reason is I'll be listening to the radio and not racing the shutdown.

It's a quite unusual transmission we have, which is why we can get away with hitting Power without pressing Park first.

Why bother hitting Park before hitting Power? I always just hit the power button to shut the car off. Puts it in Park for you automatically.

I also have used the "power" button for turning the CT (and my previous Prius) on and off (P).

P 187 (may be a different page in your manual) has a bullet point: Automatically P position selection function - stating that if the Power button is ON and the shift position is not in "P" (AND the vehicle is stopped completely), pressing the power button will cause the vehicle to automatically shift into the "P" position.

I thought that was the way to do it! I always did that (powering off in gear) in my Prius and carried it over to the CT200. Why do an extra step when the manual clearly says that pressing the power button automatically shifts into Park? I don't have all that many steps left in my short, old legs so I sure don't want to waste any of them.

On the other hand, my wife, who ordinarily drives her GS350 is in the habit of shifting to "P" so she automatically does that. Both seem to work fine.

Well it is a habit. My other car requires me to put the car in Park first before I push the button to turn off the car. If I turn off the car first, it will put it in park, but I cannnot use the electronic parking brake. I don't feel safe if I don't have the parking brake on while parked even on a flat road. :p

The Lexus sales person told me that you only had to hit Power when shutting down and there was no need to hit the Park button.
