"Hey Gurl" requested some photos showing the Bamboo dash trim with the Ecru interior on another thread after I had commented that I thought the two went well together in my CT, even at the discounted cost of $154 for the $199 piece.

But after making the swap and comparing the black factory piece to the bamboo trim, the thought crossed my mine that I should have first experimented with some self-adhesive faux wood contact paper and produced my own "wood" trim using the factory piece. I'm pretty handy with an Xacto knife and would wager that I could have trimmed a piece of the contact paper so close that only I would know the original trim was a fake fake. A Google search turned up the photo on the far right below of the variety of self-adhesive wood-grained styles of contact paper available. But the deal was done, so I didn't bother.

I don't regret paying so much for so little in the end, but I can't help but wonder if Lexus will respect me in the morning and ever call me again!

I got the Burl wood one Bill and I know I was disappointed in seeing it and what they are charging for it. Somehow I was expecting a little more than a coating with how they were describing it

Awwh, thanks Bill for posting the pics. I like it! However, I'm sure my husband will NOT want to spend $154 for it. (although I bought the Graphite metallic for mine) You are hilarious. LOL! I'm sure Lexus will not call you in the morning if you try to duplicate their little rip off trim. hehe However, who cares what they think. I love your idea about making a faux trim. Definitely try it!! Dang, too bad you didn't think of that first. I would love to see your handy work. ;-)

Bob: I am sooo with you on that point. I was a bit disappointed too. I was hoping the graphite metallic trim would be a bit more noticeable. Heck, if you blink fast you could miss it. hehe I kinda figured that would be the case on the black dash, but I still wanted to try it. Of course, my husband says I "just like to waste money". Well, what woman doesn't?? :p hehe

Bill, that is SUCH an excellent idea. I may try to fabricate my own. Maybe w/ plaid or something. LOL.

Well, I'll definitely keep ya'll posted if I do. Actually, now that you mention it, my friend did the same thing to multiple trim panels when she first got her VW Golf. Hmmm. I may ask her for some advice.
