Newbie -- Coming Around on the CT200h

Hi everyone,

Haven't bought one yet, but I'm on the "cusp" of taking that plunge. I've got one final step before I decide: I have to bring my keyboard and amp in to the dealer and see if it'll actually fit. If so, it then becomes a matter of making various option, package, accessory decisions....

That's where my first question is: I have an Android phone that I absolutely love. In my opinion, the Google NAV with live traffic is the best NAV system I've used, and it's always being updated (mostly for the better, even!). For that reason, I'm seriously considering foregoing the NAV option on the CT. Have any of you readers made the same choice, for the same reason? How'd it work out for you? Any regrets? What else would I be missing if I opted out on the NAV? Would this be a reasonable choice to make (NAV on phone, not on car)?

Thanks!

Welcome to the community! :)
I have a UK spec model with Mark Levinson sound.

Nav gives you:

1)The nav screen
2)A utilities screen where you can access the telephone/phone book (mine allows you to ring any number from your phone book when you are driving; there are also 3 pages of quick numbers), access a calender (enter short notes on dates etc) and a fuel economy sub menu that shows your past fuel consumption and has a far clearer engine /electricity/charging digram
3)A setup screen
4)An air con screen so you can control your air con with the "mouse"
5)An entertainment screen, where I can choose between various music sources: AM radio/DAB (digital) radio/FM radio/6 CD autochanger (with DVD)/Hard disk (there is a 10 gb hdd on board, about 0.5 gb is used, you can get 120+ albums at 128 kbps compression)/blue tooth audio/USB connection to an ipod etc/USB stick membory for the audio. There are also controls for the sound equalisation etc.

Most of my driving is local so I use mainly the fuel economy/energy use screen and the audio select screen. I use the calender for jotting down fuel costs and miles done. I use the telephone screen a lot too - I think it's more accurate than voice recognition, at least for my Northern English accent.

The air con screen is a bit superfluous, and, tbh, I think the Lexus software isn't brilliant - smaller fonts could have been used so more information is on each screen, there could have been different colour schemes (like on my mk 2 and 3 GSs) and the map should have been in UK standard colours (after all, it's just a few lines of code) but I would not live without it now.

Must confess, would think the screen in the nav version is far easier to read than a phone on the device holder as you don't have to look away from the road as long. As nav systems go, have used them in a Toyota Previa (7 seater, think you would call it an Accura), a Mk2 Lexus GS, a Mk3 GS, and various iPhone nav systems (including a Copilot system around France) and the nav is quite good although it is not that good with house numbers. It's brilliant at finding restaurants and hotels though.

Thanks johnleigh for the thorough response, it's much appreciated.

I agree that the built-in larger screen would be preferable to what I would have on my phone. But I'm weighing that against the current capabilities of the NAV function on my phone, and, most importantly, how readily the software is updated on my phone. Not to mention updating the hardware (i.e., buying a new phone). We have the built-in NAV on my other car (2004 Honda Odyssey), which seemed way cool at the time, but now seems clunky and obsolete. I can't help but think it'll be the same with the CT NAV 3 years from now.

Mostly, I just wanted to run that line of reasoning by the folks here and see if I'm off base.
True.

It can, I think, be best summed up as "if you want nav only for the nav don't bother"

How do you get music onto the Hard Disk? I cant find that option on my CT with nav.

He has the Mark Levinson premium audio. I think it is only offered in the UK.
Ah, didn't know the HDD music was only with the ML sound system.

When I put in a CD there's a little "record" button that appears on my playback screen.
PS

I am totally bemused by what Lexus "allow" as extras in different countries. Whoever thought this one up must have been at the bottles of sake for far too long. I mean, no ML sound system or HDD audio in North America. No option to buy the shark fin antenna or the centre console armrest outside Japan. No moon roof option in the UK until 12 months after the car's release. No powered passenger seat option. No electronic device holder option in the UK. WTF?? It makes no sense to me at all.

Please note Lexus -I would have paid good money for a powered passenger seat and would have increased your profits by a tiny increment.
Ahh. Thanks, I didnt see that the ekstra money it costed for me go up from navi/sports pack to the luxuary pack was worth it. Its avaliable in Norway too.

Also wanted the powered seat, but then i had to get leather seats. And I really didnt want that.
