It has been garaged and out of the elements. However, when I went to start it today the brake pedal would not depress and the start button did nothing. I hit the FOB to see if it will lock or unlock it and nothing. My first thought is was a battery issue. I don't understand why the battery would have just gone out, could it have been the insane - temps we've been having here in the plains?

As a girl I don't have any experience on how to check the juice on a battery and wanted to see if anybody had any suggestions before looking to tow it. The nearest dealership is in a whole different state.

Thank you

It definitely sounds like a battery issue to me. When was the last time it ran? How cold is it in the garage? Rather than towing, it's better to jump the car with another car or a battery jumper. The other thing it could be is rodent damage to the wiring. But this weather really kills a battery's ability to work.

Thanks for responding. The last time I originally ran the car was about 4 days ago, however, we have had historic below-zero weather. I believe the coldest was -40 at one point. I would have assumed the garage probably got -20. I did what you said and jump-started it. Drove it for 1 hour, turned it off then went back to try and start it and it would not start. I am thinking the severe cold killed the battery, does not seem to hold a charge anymore.

yeah sounds like a new battery is needed. -20 will do that.
I had mine not even in cold weather in FL, almost 2 yrs ago. It was battery that needed replaced ( small battery besides hybrid battery). Ever since then no issues, not even in this cold in Dallas, TX. It was replaced by Lexus. Was expensive to change , but no issues since then. You can charge that to start. I also have LS 460 ,always with trickle charge with NOCO Genius 10 , no issues , sometimes no start in three months.
