This is an older thread, but I am wondering who is getting extended warranties, when and from where?
Was thinking about giving the above guy a call and am wondering what people are paying for their extended warranties.

I read something on a Prius forum about having to have the master cylinder replaced for the tune of $3000.00. I guess it's not a traditional master cylinder on the Toyota hybrid. Anyway, after the guy posted it online and contacted the NHTSA as well, they essentially backed down from the cost (in all fairness - perhaps for an unrelated reason). And I, knowing full well that a disproportionate amount of problems are communicated in internet forums...

Anyway, I am just thinking about an extended warranty.

Anyone?

I just sent that email letter to the dealer who sold me the CT200h and extended warranty. I paid $1800 for 8yr/75000 miles (and $50 deductible) versus the $1220 from Kansas (and ZERO deductible). Mine is also a 3rd party warranty, not a "Lexus" warranty.

The extended warranty you bought from the dealer at the time of purchase is a 3d party warranty? That may be a standard thing. I just want to be clear. Sounds like I will be giving him a call then if thats the case.

Yes, "United Auto Care" is the name on the extended warranty. My guess is that the dealer has autonomy and can make their own decisions on this item. It was a Penske-owned Lexus dealer; they have something like 275 auto dealerships. Huge. Powerful.

Don't worry about it. That you purchased it through them, they certainly can't look sideways at you should you ever need it/use it (even if you have to share with them the details of the price you 'could' have gotten). Think of it as relationship building.
Hopefully we all throw that money away and not have to use the warranty.

In Canada our Lexus Extended Warranty's come directly from Lexus and are honoured in both Canada and the US...9 year, 120,000 km is about $2700.00 CAN, no deductable, fully transferable and if not used it is refunded.

Rule of thumb, never buy anything from the Finance Manager, period. It is based on my prior experiences. They rip you off and take back any negotiation you did earlier.

When I tried to tell my dealer's finance manager that I could get extented warranty quoting Jerry's price. He kept trying to tell me that it is illegal to get it outside of the California. I just told him that I will do some research and considered it later. In the end he gave out and came down to about $200 higher of Jerry's price and said that's the best he could do. Orginally it was $3000+... came down to $1700. I took it because then I don't have to do any research and I get to pay the amount over 60 months and this is the dealership that I will be taking my car back for service and warranty work.

I am currently comtemplating whether I should buy the extended warranty in Canada but I am interested to know the terms and conditions for refund. Does anyone have more information on it?
