I hear it too! Doesn't happen all the time, but seems to go away if I reconnect the the cable. I'm also using an aftermarket (retractable) cable so that might be it.
Also if your iPhone is jailbroken, you can install this thing from Cydia call 'no accessory attached' ... it will get rid of that annoying screen so you can select songs on the phone itself. Works great!
