I programmed my new key myself. It takes like 2 minutes but you need the software. My CT allowed for up to 5 keys to be programmed and now I have 3 programmed for my car.
To program a key you need the special OBD connector cable and toyota techstream software.
You can buy the cable and software for $35 online. I bought this one: 2014 Latest Mini VCI Diagnostic Tool Cable for Toyota Lexus Scion Tis Techstream | eBay
If you have a brand new key not programmed to any other car then it will program easily without an problem.

Once a key is already programmed to another car it wont program to your car unless you do a key reset and you need a "seed passcode" and when you enter it in, it makes you wait 15 minutes before it will program the used key to your car.
Any dealer can get the seed passcode and program your key for a price.
There are some people online that can get you your seed/passcode, but I have not tried that as I did not need to.
Either they work for a dealer or they found the formula for calculating the toyota passcode.

Also, it is possible to find a local locksmith that can get toyota passcodes and they may be cheaper than the dealer.

hi
welcome to this fourum site.I work in a bodyshop and have worked in bodyshops at dealers. Here in georgia the limit is $500. If it is below $500, it does not need to be disclosed. And you can keep many things below $500 when youre doing it at cost. However i have seen brand new cars come in from the factory that have had repairs/paint work done

I recently purchased a new key/remote for my '06 RX400h. Had it cut and the key itself programmed fine, so I can start the engine with it. But I cannot get the remote to work. I went to a Locksmith who had the programming device and instructions, but we could not get it to work at all. I know there is a limit on the number of remotes that can be programmed, so I suspect that could be the problem. I bought the car used and only got one remote, so I'd like to have a second.

Where can i purchase the fob replacement?
There are a few options at your disposal for purchasing a fob replacement. The most direct option is the dealership, although it also happens to be the most expensive option (in my opinion). In lieu of getting the key fob replacement directly from the car dealership, you can reach out to a locksmith to help you. In most cases, they will be able to help you replace the key fob and program it accordingly. Or, like some other forum members said above, you can handle the entire replacement process yourself. I hope this helps.
