HID vs DRL color comparsion

I'm looking to get this thread set up for those(me as well) looking to do a HID mod. Instead of bouncing all over the forum looking for who has what. I think it would be easier to consolidate images into one thread. So if you got an HID kit installed please post an image and describe:

What company
What Wattage
Color Temp

Also weather or not you did your fog lights.

I ran around the Forum and grabbed some pictures from members. The first 3 are of LxTxNx, he is running 35W 5K. The last 2 are of OZ-CT200H and he is running 35W 6K, but to me OZ-CT200H DRLs look different he has an F-sport though im not sure if the DRLs are different.

If anyone else has any other setups feel free to throw them up.

Also here is a link for some more HID info http://www.squidoo.com/hid-bulbs-halogen-bulbs this may help some make the decision on what color they may want.

Well it will be a little longer before I get my Kensun HID lights installed; the order was lost in the mail.

However, I ordered through Amazon and they immediately credited me with a refund and allowed me to reorder with free one-day delivery. I like Amazon's customer service.

The new order should arrive at my Huntsville cabin on Friday, October 21.

Hey Darienlim you HIDs look great ;) . I guess you Sylvania Silver stars didn't last very long :D:eek:
Sorry to hear about the lost mail. Yes you are right about HID, it does make it look better and not to mention better light output quality than the factory halogen. I still have those Silverstar ULTRA bulbs. I might swap those with the fog lights one day! :)

Kensun 4300K installed

4300K matches the DRLs perfectly

Here is a shot that show the difference between 6000k and 4300k. I installed the passenger side first, driver 6000k. I thought it would show better. Oh well! But if you look close the driver's side is bluer and the actual light makes the DRLs look yellow.

During installation, the DDM relay harness failed. I have had it with DDM products and had to unistall the relay harness. The ballast on the Kensun are slightly larger than the DDM.

So far, great the Kensun looks like a winner!

Very nice man. Good job!
awesome that it works!

and all those people who said it was the car or that it was normal operation for one HID side not to work. well it's definitely the product...
Make sure to check the polarity of these before purchasing. These are likely made in China like the pair I got off ebay. The polarity on my set is opposite to our car and I had solder two leads to the bulbs and connect it to the stock harness. It worked as expected but i found the light output of 18 5050 SMDs for fogs to be very low, it's really just for show. So I'm going to replace it with OSRAM NBP which I just ordered.

BTW the title of your link say 24 SMD but I counted 18 in the picture. 18 is more common for 5050 SMD H11 fogs.

Has anyone installed a set of Piaa Ion Crystal Yellow Fog lights?
Would like to see a night time picture if you have them installed.

I'm 99% sure these are the PIAA Ion Crystal Yellow Fogs

I think if the DRLs didn't switch to the lower level when the headlight go off they would look or match best with my HIDs.
Exactly. That's why you really can't get a bulb that will match them, otherwise it will be too dim.
That seems too cheap of a price to me. I don't have a ton of experience with LED's and light output, but are you sure those will provide enough light/forward throw?

I have Piaa Plasma Yellow Ion fogs (2500k), they're almost 2x as much as I spend on my DDM HID lights, but they're a very reputable brand.

Sure do! There's a comparison pic in here w/ lights on and off (shining on my garage door).

That looks really good midcow3. I just got my HID kit in today and will install them shortly. I will post before and after pics, although I am not sure how you guys are embedding images.

Thank You Jimmy, That is what I wanted to see. Will definitely go with these.
They put out color spectrum light like the ones I had on an '85 Cheeroke Chief although bumper mounted and brighter.
Nice write-up and display pics of the yellow fogs!

Congrats on making the switch to 4300K. Personally I really enjoy having them as it has multi level colour spectrum depending on distance and viewing angle. From a distance about 150 ft, you'll notice a purple tint, from 30-100 ft it'll look pure white, under 15 ft it'll look like sunlight.
This is similar behaviour as OEM xenon on BMW/Benz etc...

I'll add pictures to this thread once i have my OSRAM fogs installed next week.
Nice write-up and display pics of the yellow fogs!
Thanks man. I've had these pics up elsewhere on here for quite a while. I honestly don't use them that much, did it more for looks. I really only use them when it's rainy out, never at night when it's dry out, as the HID's kick a$$ and do a great job.

I don't know that the piaa's are pricey as mentioned above, more like the HID's are so damn cheap IMO!
