Greetings from the PNW (Vancouver, Seattle, Portland)

I'm looking for a new car and right now it's a toss up between the CT and the new 2015 Golf. I'll pick one up sometime between now and this time next year. I'm a hypermiler, so I'll consider the new 2015 Prius as well.

I am on this forum because I am finding it frustrating to find models of these vehicles with LED headlights and interior lighting (for night time driving), so I want to see what everyone else is doing and get some ideas of what is possible. I think, I will need to change the low beams to LED lights, but I want Audi like lights. I also want the fog lights to do their job. For the interior, it would be nice to get foot well lighting that did not over power the cabin on an unlit highway. I travel up and down I5 often from Vancouver, BC to Portland, OR so meeting up with other owners, would be cool.

Welcome from the TSE (Tropical South East...aka Florida)

the estimated MPG for the Golf is pretty impressive (45-47mpg gas; 53-57 diesel) but I haven't been a VW fan in a very long time. The CT would be my choice over the Prius but if overall MPG's are the goal it's hard to ignore the Golf.

45-47 might be the estimated numbers for the 2015 Golf, but I can say with certainty that the 2014 goes no where near this. In fact, I have not been able to achieve anywhere near VW's rated numbers on test drives - sure the engine needs to be broken in, but I have always been able to get within 1 or 2 of what the Jap Hybrids have been rated.

Given that, IF the 2015 Golf can achieve a minimum of 45 for stop and go, I need to seriously consider that car.

One other thing is cost. There is only about 5k difference between the Golf and the CT, by the time I am done configuring it. I have read that the Golf holds its resell value better than the CT, as well. Not sure about TOC. I think the maintenance between the two vehicle would have to be similar, but I'm not sure.

It also depends if you plan on keeping the car long term and care about reliability. The lexus wins hand down on reliabilty, several of my co-workers have constantly complaint about their VW's reliability. Also check Consumer reports on the relability ratings. BTW, the term "Jap" in not very PC and very mch out of date.

that scares me that a VW would have a better resale value than a Lexus...what is this world coming to?
I agree with KKM, reliability wise, Lexus is the clear winner. I have a co-worker that was looking at a couple different vehicles like VW, Honda, Kia (all used cars, not brand new) and I told him to stay away from VW so what does he do??? He buys the VW...and has problems after problems. It's hard not to say "I told you so" but every person needs to learn their own way I guess.
