Just like the title says, I need a Positive Wire that is around the Map Light area.
I have the Radar detector that is above the rear view mirror and wanted to rig a better version than the standard coil cigarette lighter plug.
The power has to be on when the car is on and off when the car is off.
Anyone has hot wired wires for the radar detectors?

I just came to a realization where when I need to save gas, you sometimes have to go over the speed limit on a down hill before another up hill.
I came to realize driving a CT and saving gas yielded more caution for speeding than my 360AWHP Subaru I used to own.... LOL

Any feedback will be appreciated!

I just hard wired my radar detector to my mirror about a month ago. I made my own mirror tap. I have to look at the colors again to see which one is positive. However using mirror raps you don't have to splice or cut wires. Really simple. I'll see if u can forward you the link I used to make you own. There is already a post on here that shows which wires are positive and negative, that's how I figured mine out.

I then used this thread to make my own mirror tap. These parts are sold a radio shack for a couple bucks and works like a charm. I drilled a small hole through the black cover that goes over the mirror wires. Everything is hidden and looks so clean. I have my detector on a mirror mount that hugs the lower part of the mirror. Remember the higher up you detector is the less effective it is. You want it as low as possible on your windshield. Even a mirror mount is less effective but I would steer clear having it above your mirror.

Thanks so much for your information.
This will definitely be a great clean way to get power to my Radar Detector.
As long as I know where the wires are, I would be able to perform a clean installation.

As for the radar detector positioning, I was wondering why it was better to be lower?
I had a feeling where the rear facing window of the radar detector should have a clean line of sight toward the rear window of the car.
Only reason why I have it close to the top of the windshield IS because I can have a clean sight on both windows.
Let me know!

Two reasons. Above your rear view mirror does not give a clean site through read windows due to the CT sloping roof line. However most police radar shoots towards your front license plate or headlights. The higher up it is the less reaction time the radar has.

That makes no sense at all. I think you have radar and laser mixed up. It isn't as though radar is one needle shaped spot. It is a beam, that at 1/2 mile measures several hundred feet wide and tall. Laser is really hard to detect because it is a pinpoint thing. Check out the Escort website and read some facts, not anecdotal nonsense. While there are some cars that might block the rear window due to roof slope, MOST detectors do not have a rear facing sensor and rely on reflections from road signs or buildings. If you have a Valentine or some other unit that does have a rear facing sensor, then I suppose you might be somewhat concerned with the roofline, but I bet it would still work on radar and not much works on laser, but fortunately, laser has a lot of calibration problems and is not used by a lot of departments, since it requires not only strict calibration but pinpoint accuracy and training to use it.

Exactly what did I mistype other than the word radar and laser? I typed mounting the detector higher up is less effective for radar when I meant laser. That's it! Sorry captain! If you left this forum and never came back you'd be doing all of us a favor. Bye! You are adding zero value. YOU ARE the only one attacking here. The information I posted is 100% factual and is common knowledge. Heck even the manual to my radar detector says to mount it as low as possible for effective laser protection. However the OP can do whatever he wants. I was just sharing useful information with him. That was until you came here attacking me. Go take a hike and never come back if that's your attitude.

I am sorry this thread turned out to be a finger pointing to another.
You guys both supplied me with sufficient information and with links to websites where all knowledge were there for me to read upon.
The word has been corrected, let's leave it at that!
I have been on many forums and been burned, finger pointed at, pointed finger at, but hope we can all cease fire soon.
Either way, thanks to you guys as well for the extra info that I was looking for.
