I recently purchased a cherry Nebula Grey 2015 CT200H with only 13k miles on it. I love it, but was not impressed with the acceleration, or lack thereof. I was bound and determined to improve on it without resorting to a CAI. My reasoning is they make too much noise. Why not work with the OEM air box and air horn assembly. I have been doing it a little at a time, kinda like the scientific method. Tonight I was coming back from a Birthday dinner, and was able to get out on the highway after hours. What was bothering me, and everyone else who I read on this and elsewhere is the lazy acceleration. That ended tonight. I almost can not believe it. Im not going into exactly what Ive done just yet. And there is more to do, Im just posting this in hopes there are others that might be interested in upping the performance and fun of driving this fantastic little car. Here's the best part, its actually as quiet or quieter than stock!
Let me give you a little backround on me, Im a cylinder head specialist for the the last 40+ years, so I know a thing or two about improving flow in motorcycle heads for racing purposes. This was just a little project to see if it could be done, and Im here to tell you that its most impressive, and I still have the stock air filter in yet. Im sure as you read this your saying to yourself it sounds too good to be true. Around town its definitely better, but where it really shines is on the highway. I will be releasing info on what to do, and im sure anyone interested in doing it themselves can probably guess some or most of what there is to do. Its the last piece I got really lucky on, and I have to get that manufactured to spec. Once everything is in place, highway driving and spirited driving will be making you smile, it did me, that's why I'm posting this. This is my first ever post here, and I hope Im not crossing any line with the moderators, but I was so impressed, I just had to tell someone who might care.

I purchased the Injen and took it off the next day. Made the car growl, but felt dumb because it made noise and went nowhere. The other con is that I lost a lot of low end torque. Passing cars on the freeway was a lot better, but this being my wife’s daily driver with mostly city driving, the low end torque was sorely missed.

Looking at the stock air box, you could actually delete the large box next to the intake tube. I don’t know what it’s for, maybe someone could enlighten me? The only other thing I could think of would be to use smoother tubing like silicone instead of the corrugated rubber. If you could get intake to get a little bit of air in front of the radiator, that would be better. At the end of the day though, all that hard work on a 1.8L hybrid motor wouldn’t do much anyways.

I was looking at the intake system today and I think they might have it located in the best place. The end of the house opens up just behind the passenger side headlight. I noticed that the rubber seal for the hood actually skips over the headlight which likely allows for clean air to flow into the intake.

There is a metal screen/filter located right after the air filter and before the monitor. The area looked clean so I'm not sure if cleaning that part would make a difference.

After all the waiting, Im just about ready to unleash our performance package. While its not easy trying to tweak an Atkinson Cycle Engine, I know I have found the right combination. Im now looking for someone in the Philadelphia metro area who has a bone stock 14 thru 17 Ct200 , and would like to be involved in getting the first production pieces installed.
This is something that really works, but I would like to do things in steps, not just throwing the whole kitchen sink at it. Also if someone has a complete stock airbox assembly, and would like to give it up, Ill pay fair price for it. As for what it is, thats going to remain my little secret for now. I dont want it copied, although Im sure eventually someone will.

Kind of silly.

Some random guy comes up with a great power increasing device by modifying the intake that is as quiet or quieter than stock.

There is no power to be gained by solely changing the air intake. That's true on any modern car. And the stock air intake IS a cold air intake. Also true on any modern car.

Oooh the secrets.

Im interested as well. I am very inclined to order a Quantum Solenoid. I have read some reviews of it on other forums and people do say that they reach redline faster. I'm also in the talks with Torqamp to see if their Electric Turbo would be a good fit for the CT200h. Along with new Exhaust pipes the CT could really become a fun car to drive around.

Okay, so heres the deal. After a bunch of fooling around, I have the combination for the intake tract. My piece, along with the qantum solenoid, an aftermarket air filter, airbox mods, and changing out the spark plug gap.I get more power all the time, but its at the expense of mileage, as it should be. Im not ready to market it out yet, but if you want to go on my lazerporting facebook page and pm me, Ill be glad to discuss details. Thanks, Mike
