wow really???

Mine is sitting at 5.0L/100km on the computer (~5.2L/100km actual) and am expecting to see up to 6.0L/100km max over winter.
I've had the car since last december, and the average since I got it is 4.8L/100km on the computer

Here's a few tips:
- don't blast the heat as soon as you get in, let the engine warm up a bit first
- google "pulse and glide prius"
- if you know your trip is ending soon, go ahead and drive at 60-70 in ev mode with the hybrid guage near middle (even though it is not the most efficient place to be)
- on hwy use eco mode, in the city use sport mode
- accelerate to around 70, ease off til it goes into ev mode, then glide as much as you can til you get down to 60, and then accelerate back up to 70 and repeat (don't do this in traffic or you'll just bother others)

there are tons of tips out there on how best to drive the prius/ct200h and im sure you will see much better results

We woke up to -16C yesterday morning and my tank average went from 5.7 to 6.2 (it's been zero to -8C now for weeks and I went from my summer rates of 4.8 to 5 then 5.2 then 5.7).
I think a huge part of that is what hdave says - the engine comes on and stays on longer (even at stop lights) now to keep the engine coolant warm for the heater. If I know I have a long light to sit at I will turn off the heat and the engine stops then just before I get my green light I hit the fan button and the engine turns on but that's okay as I know it will when I accelerate.
We didn't get any -30C last winter but a few nights of -22C and the worst I ever got was 6.8 - but I drive from an insulated attached garage to heated underground at the office so that helps as the engine coolant is never as cold as would be parking outide.

At least in 3 months (heopfully!) I get to watch my liters/100 go down again :)
