After having several cars with factory navigation units, I got sick of the complexity and cost of them. So I got a TomTomXL540TM for under $200, and love it ! Free map upgrades forever and free traffic assist. The spoken directions it gives are so good that I rarely have to look at the screen....but when I do it is great, especially helpful on complex Interstate interchanges with its multiple lane view. One big advantage of aftermarket units is the ability to take it in the house and pre-program route(s) from the comfort of your chair. Nice to have it next to the PC so I can get all the addresses I will need to visit during a trip and store them in 'Favorites' for quick access later. I bought a weighted mount for it and leave it attached all the time. Just unplug from the power outlet and put it on the floor out of view when leaving the vehicle.
