Just picked up my ride today. The dealer offered me off a total of $2200 off (including the lexus loyalty rebate). However, I also extended my warranty for another 3 years and purchased the alarm through their financial advisor so the price I ultimately paid was even a bit higher. The warranty was an additional $1900 and the alarm was nearly 700. Btw, I am from SoCal.

Any tips on whether or not either of these will be useful? If not, I would like to cancel the extension and request for a refund on the alarm as well (since I am scheduled to have the alarm done next week).

Please feel free to provide me with your suggestions!

I personally would not buy extended warranty. For $1900, you can put that in the bank and use it to fix things after the warranty expires.

About the alarm for $700, I would rather use the money to subscribe to Lexus Enform. The car comes with GPS. Your car can be tracked.

This car doesn't come with an alarm? Every Lexus I've ever owned has one. It says "Anti-theft Alarm System with Engine Immobilizer."

Thank you Tim!

I am going to cancel my extended warranty. However, as for the alarm, I am still unsure. Can you let me in more on the Lexus Enform?

According to the sales & finance people, the CT200H does not have an alarm immobilizer unless I add on the $700 alarm! And they claim to say that anyone CAN ignite my car even without the key/alarm.

Does anyone know anything about this?

According to the owners manual, there is a unique transponder chip in each key. Each key is registered in the vehicles computer. If a key with a registered chip is not present, the hybrid system will not start.

I've read that our cars can be hacked, however, by gaining access to the cars computer system. Ask if this additional immobilizer can react to this type of access. From what I've read, it probably can't! :(

On the warranty front, my dealer doubled my coverage for about the same cost as yours. Since I intend to keep the car for a long time, I went for it. If something goes wrong with one of the electronic modules, they are very expensive to replace. Check Prius reliability and problems, since it is essentially the same car under the hood! There have been problems on occasion. If you intend on keeping the car for awhile, I'd consider a counter proposal to double the factory warranty for the same price and see what they say. :)

$700 is a rip-off, just go with a Viper aftermarket if you want something a bit more sensitive and louder if someone tries breaking a window. What kind of alarm was it exactly?

I personally don't see a use for Enform. Are people really paying for this once it expires?

Don't let folks scare you out of what you did. Extended warrantys are IMHO a an insurance program. I got the 6 yr 125k one

The car comes with an alarm already. I would cancel and request for a refund ASAP.
Called the Finance sales lady and told her I will be cancelling the warranty! She requested an email or fax from me (since I live an hour away from the dealer, but I have also sent requesting for a refund on both the warranty & alarm!) Hopefully, it will all go well.

was the 6 years 125K free? the free one offered to me was only 4 yr 50K?(i think)

btw, i went to the newport lexus. anyone else been to that dealer by chance?

It's not free. It's a warranty policy to extend the factory one.

I put 25K miles a year on my car and just wanted some extra insurance on stuff going bad

For me, the extended warranty gets refunded to me in full if I don't invoke the use of it at the end of the extended warranty period.

Wow, that is a great deal Matt...seems like a no-brainer if you have cash for it up front!

Got it in writing! I got it lumped into my monthly payment. When I was signing my loan paperwork, they were printing out checks and showing me people who were getting their warranties refunded back to them.

Wow, Matt. That is pretty awesome. I also have never heard of this until now. I'd give it some consideration now with that piece of information in mind.

How on the world do they make money on a deal like that? I sure hope they offer that to me.

They take the money and invest it in low risk and get the interest on your money.
