ct200h to only have 187 horsepower???

I just read on AutoGuide.com that the CT200h is probably only going to have about 187 horsepower... because it is using the Prius setup (which makes 134hp in the Prius) ... is this true?

WHY make such a beautiful car, and then give it such a wimpy engine????

Why is 187 Hp wimpy ? I dont think you get the concept of this car..

I dont think it will get 187 hp tough, since the Prius has only 134. The seperate engines of the Prius are 100 hp petrol and 80 hp electric. Making 180 hp..
Hmmm maybe not ... because honestly, I was attracted to it for the looks. Not because it was going to be an econo-box. I thought its a beautiful looking sporty car with four doors. Perfect for someone who is thinking of starting a family, or wants to do some modifications.
I hope they will use a more powerful electric motor compared to the Prius. But i doubt it. In the Netherlands the tax you pay for your company car is 14% for the Prius. That means it has has an output of less than 99 mg CO2. Lexus stated the ct200h also will be in the 14% tax class meaning it wont be much more powerful compared to the Prius. But maybe for the US they will use a stronger engine as an option.

I agree, the looks are what hooked me at first. and to be honest with my insurance rates im probably better off with the lower hp, but that doesn't mean I wont turn down any upgradeable options
Rest assured they will have a better engine than a Prius. I can't imagine Lexus making such a dumb move. It may only be in North America, but I would say there is no way they will use the exact same setup.

Anybody know the TORQUE figures? I won't mind the HP if the torque is around the same ~180 lbs/ft
One article said the CT200h will have a 0-62 in 10.2 seconds.....

My brain processed that as "0-62mph in One Weekend"

:(
Well the CT200h was never meant to be a high performance hybrid like the GS450h or an ISF for that matter. But sticking the Toyota/Lexus formula, the CT will fit in nicely with the rest of their hybrid line up. HS for entry level luxury, GS for performance, RX for utility and the LS for prestige. CT will fit that void for sportiness and efficiency.
I really will not be buying the CT for a high performance sports car so the 187 hp will be more than enough for my liking. Also the 10 second 0-60 is just another useless stat, and is comparable to my current car.

I am all about styling at this point in my life. If I wanted power and speed I would buy a car that advertises it.
The USA Lexus website says 134 hp.I'm glad that it's not equipped with a more powerful hybrid drive line as that would bump up the price, and I think affordability is a key issue with the CT.I do think it would be nice if they could ad a more powerful version if the market takes to it.
Nominally, the CT 200h shares the Toyota Prius' 134 hp powertrain, but CT will have a more sophisticated 4-mode (Normal/Economy/EV and Sport) hybrid system than the Prius, and in Sport mode, battery power is boosted from 500 volts to 650 volts. CT 200h should, in that mode, be a livelier drive than Prius.

And, for those of us that long for a more powerful CT, there's hope in that Lexus has registered trademarks for CT 300h and CT 400h. For more, see what I wrote back in July of last year: Lexus' "C-Premium" upmarket small car gets a name: CT 200h... - my.IS - Lexus IS Forum
Thanks for the link. I also did not know about the trademarks. i hope they fulfill those.
