Why are hybrids difficult to boost the horsepower? Sorry if this sounds completely newbie.

Well, they are set up for economy. Starting at a low baseline like that is a hard thing to do. Any power upgrades would require higher flow fuel etc... as the car will come set up for straight efficiency.
