Completely scratched my rim today What now? Repair it? or let it go...

I saw a great thread either on here or Club Lexus and some guy used a few types of sandpaper to smooth out the scratches and video was linked on thread... I've tried looking for it but can't find it again.... HELP!

Don't sweat it, I did the same thing to my two-day old IS250 back in 08. There are mobile services like RimGuard that will come to your house or work and take care of it for you. I think RimGuard charged me $90 to fix my gouge & after he was through you would've never known it had happened.

I guess if you're handly with a Dremel you could try & fix it yourself, but I thought $90 was a reasonable price to pay a professional.

Use Professional Rim Place

atebit makes a good recommendation. I was going to suggest something similar. The places that specailize in rims also can professionally take care of it for around the same price; they can also rebalance. There was one around here called Super Wheels.

95% of CT owners will curb the hell out of their rims & not even notice.

(Before anyone gets all pissy because they'd never not notice - most of us on this forum would be considered 'semi-enthusiasts' at the least, thus we are not a proper sampling of CT owners).

You are so right-on Jedi most CT owners won't be near as enthusiastic as those on this and the Club Lexus forum

I have a scratch that looks exactly like this (but a little bigger) on my rim.
I used some sand paper to rub it and it looks a little better. I asked the dealership and the guy told me to just leave it alone because I might make it worse.

I wouldn't worry about it.

It's too bad we don't have full size spares, otherwise I'd say just replace the wheel w/ the spare.

Better than the Volt, no spare- all they have is a air pump and a can of pressurized sealant

I noticed on the CT's at my dealer that the Michelins have a bit of rubber that protrudes out further than the rim. I guess this doesn't help?

Actually, good point, that reminds me. I pulled out of an end parking space (luckily I backed in) and I forgot how close to the curb I was. I hit the curb with my rear tire and that tire saved my rim for sure. I have the Michelin Primacy.

Definitely helped me once or twice. However I noticed a 2" gash in the panel just in front of the right front tire, right at the bottom. Doesn't seem like it could have been a curb, but I have no idea how it happened...

yeah the michelins have the rim guard which helps alot but if u curb it on the way down it will still hit the rim a little bit on the edge but the damage isnt nearly as bad had the rim guard not been there

While trying to squeeze through a tight space while making a 90 degree turn, after some clown blocked me in, I clipped the curb. I took a small chunk out of the protuberance on the tire and put a small ding on the rim. I didn't realize that it was possible to sand the ding out. However, I may just look for a local place that fixes rims, just so I don't screw it up any more than it is.

Yup, been there, done that, in the first week of ownership on a curb with yellow paint. Agony. My excuse was that I wasn't used to the hatchback thing backing into parking space (What the ***! What is the wheel doing there so far back?). I lost a small (but annoying) piece of the rim guard as well. I can fix the rim because the damage is really minor, but I will have to live with the divot out of the tire (and I WILL notice it each and every time I wash the car).
