Today I decided to clean my EGR pipe and surrounding valves using a wire brush and some general brake carbon cleaner.

My car has done 86,000 miles with full Lexus history 2012 F sport.

It was fairly easy to do. I followed this YouTube video.

Have you any of you guys done it yet. I’m hoping this will help prevent any head gasket issues.

How often would you recommend cleaning the pipe and surrounding areas?

It was. It also made my car drive a lot smoother. I hope you have success with it to. Just take your time with unlocking the bolts as they are a bit difficult to get and can fall into the engine so be extra cautious.

Not bad of a good PM job. I didn’t just stop at the egr pipe. I took the complete egr assembly out for cleaning and boy did it needed one.
I needed to soak some of the pipes overnight to get as much buildup out as possible.

After I did mine, I could see light coming through the mesh. Before cleaning, no visible light coming through the mesh.

Yah, you definitely need to see the mesh all the way through the other side in the cooler. I had to soak my cooler in chemicals and boiling water for 2 days. Used 5 can of throttle cleaner and my air compressor to blow it out clean.

Here’s the list of parts that I used for the EGR maintenance. Plus I replaced my spark plugs air filter and cabin filter.
