I did the same thing. installed a black 1" stubby carbon fiber antenna for $10 from ebay. Works as good as the longer antenna.

Looks good Jimbo, Any effect on sound quality especially XM?

Nope... Nothing. XM cuts out the same with this antenna as it did with the factory one

No difference on FM/AM either.
