yep, the early CT200s had head gasket problems exactly as you're describing. Coolant leaks in and fouls up the plugs and throws codes and causes shuddering.
I wish I had known this before I bought it. Not exactly too sure what I should do about it now.yep, the early CT200s had head gasket problems exactly as you're describing. Coolant leaks in and fouls up the plugs and throws codes and causes shuddering.
yeah I did my good research before buying mine, that's why I went with the 2016. Best bet is to replace the engine and hope it doesn't happen againI wish I had known this before I bought it. Not exactly too sure what I should do about it now.
2012 ct200h with about 132xxx miles on it. Recently the engine started studdering on start up and when accelerating from stop. Took it to south bay Lexus and was quoted at $4500 to fix. Didn't go through with repairs and decided to take my vehicle to car care automotive. Car care informed me that the head gasket is blown. Still waiting for repair estimate. Has anyone had this issue with their ct200h?
Nope , had no issues before this. I'm always on time with maintenance for my vehicle. The only thing I could possibly think of was I had my engine bay cleaned one day and the person who cleaned it used a pressure washer. I'm thinking maybe that caused an issue? I'm not exactly sure how but I don't see another way of it messing up on its own. Were there any tell-tell signs days or weeks prior this happening? Outside of the known knocking sound on a cold day, my ‘12 has been running well but now I’m wondering myself.
Did they tell you what caused it? Was it the coolant leak like the other person commented?
They actually don’t have any engine problems. There were no specific changes through the engine series.yep, the early CT200s had head gasket problems exactly as you're describing. Coolant leaks in and fouls up the plugs and throws codes and causes shuddering.
Well, maybe not with the engine itself, but maybe one of the systems with the engine? Do you know what was changed? They actually don’t have any engine problems. There were no specific changes through the engine series.
I’ve been working at Lexus for 15+ years in the workshop.
Going through that issue right now. Two oil changes, and the filter was not changed. Replaced EGR myself when shuddering started periodically; cleaned EGR cooler meticulously; oil issue killed engine, I suppose. Ran beautifully for about 30 miles, and then apparently head gasket blew. Should I worry about a new head, or just replace the gasket? suppose a machine shop should check he head for warping? Thanks.yep, the early CT200s had head gasket problems exactly as you're describing. Coolant leaks in and fouls up the plugs and throws codes and causes shuddering.
My condolences. Best to have it checked by a shop and hope for the best.Going through that issue right now. Two oil changes, and the filter was not changed. YES! I have this same issue currently - Lexus Concord is stating it is a $4600 repair job, and Lexus corporate has stated they will only kick in $1300 toward the repair, which is so lame, as I have been told that only 3rd generation Prius hybrid engines have this issue (of which our car has the same). So Prius and Lexus model years 2011-2016 are affected. Did you go forward with repairs? I am pushing Lexus corporate to pay for more, but it is going nowhere.2012 ct200h with about 132xxx miles on it. Recently the engine started studdering on start up and when accelerating from stop. P.s. coolant leaked into cylinder 1. Codes P0300 0301 & 0302.
I also found a used engine for $1980 with no issues and have someone who can install it for $900. Thinking that will be my best option, any opinions/advice would be great.
What did you end up doing with your car? I have the same issue, at 92K miles on a 2104 ct200. It's a $4600 fix, or more - if the shuddering continues which I am being told it often does.I wish I had known this before I bought it. Not exactly too sure what I should do about it now.

Dealing with this myself on a 2011 ct200h with 168k miles. Dealer quoting $6,600 to fix - called Lexus Corporate. "Brand Engagement Manager" offered only $1,500 and refused to escalate it to someone higher - said "there's no recall for your VIN". I explained that many other ct owners were dealing with this issue & that Lexus has a design flaw in the 2011-2015 engines. Will be emailing Lexus.com but fully disappointed in their attitude.YES!
