Hello fellow CT owner: I live in Melbourne Australia, and yesterday I made a mistake of filling the oil tank with BP 91 unleaded, not the recommended 95 unleaded.

I'm feeling bad. Could any of the Australian car owners here give me some advice on what damage could occur?

I'm not Australian, but I bet you won't do any damage at all if you avoid hard driving and probably even if you did flog it a bit, probably nothing. Cars get bad gas all the time. Most modern cars are pretty good at retarding the timing to avoid detonation and resulting damage, but I bet your car wasn't fully empty, was it? How many gallons did you put in? Figure you probably had a few gallons in there which would blend to a higher octane. Either way, just put in as high an octane as you can find as soon as you can and keep doing that until you figure your average octane is up where it belongs.

This Chinese made engine is quite robust and very durable; it is the powerplant of choice for smaller Toyotas exported to third world countries.

BTW I understood that you filled the gas tank with BP 91 unleaded? Not your engine block where you add motor oil??? If you did fill your engine block with BP 91 gasoline you have to flat bed the vehicle to a shop and flush the gasoline (petrol) out of your engine block immediately and you must not start the engine.

Unfortunately the oil tank is nearly completely empty when I filled the fuel. Now I've got a whole tank of 91 unleaded and even if I drive all the same, it still need quite some time for it to burn out. Thank you, I'd better get the fuel out as soon as possible.

If you mean if I've fed the fuel into the slot for lubrication oil, then I think the answer is no. The BP station is 5 minute drive from my home, and I drove back, feeling nothing unusual...But as you've suggested, I would better take them out as soon as possible. Thanks!

Please reference your source for your assertion that Chinese made engines are installed in Lexus/Toyota vehicles. I believe this serious allegation is false.

You also seem to imply that Australia is a third world country. Once again, this is not only false but a gross insult. Nor are we bankrupt, unlike some other countries.

No pun/no offense intended here. Australia is a great country with proud cultural heritage and diverse culture. I am a Chinese Brazilian expatriate extracted to NJ. BTW I never had conceived that Australia was a third world country nor I have ever implied that. To me Australia is a resources rich country with a robust infrastructure. Australia got the best infantry in the world; small but deadly effective.

The 2ZR Atkinson engine is the god child of Toyota Motors used mostly in non-US market due to its ability to withstand rugged environmental conditions. US vehicles got too many accessories that robs power, the NO(x) regs are too restrictive here in the US. They selected this engine for Prius for this very reason, and Prius history is nothing but a success story. It is the world best, most reliable hybrid car powered by a Chinese made 2ZR Atkinson engine. The 2ZR in the Lexus sold in the US is the FXE variant.

Please check on Wikipedia where the 2ZR family of Toyota engines are made.

There is another partnership with BMW for a joint venture for development of hybrid technology as well.

Who the heck said Australia is a third world country? Are there parts of Australia where the English which is spoken has some sort of different meaning? Are there some Australians who are overly sensitive to perceived insults? Take a deep breath! I have always thought of Australia as one of our (USA) closest friends and allies and someone we could count on in any matter and vice versa. All of the Australians I have met are great people, but obviously some may be a little bit too sensitive.

You can do that, but I doubt that it is necessary. I am metric challenged, but as I understand it, the tank in the CT200 is 45 Liters. How many did you put in, if you remember. Even if your empty light was on, the chances are that you still had 10 liters or so of fuel in the tank, do the math. It is not a major disaster, unless you want it to be, in which case "The sky is falling!"

Don't you mean filling the Gas or Petrol tank? Oil is for engine lubrication or is it just that you Aussies do refer to the fuel tank as an "oil" tank? Oh, and I know you're not a 3rd world country.

The numbers do not add up! Did you read the other thread I commented on??? Read it

The ZR engines produced at that plant are likely 100% for Toyota Corollas

Here is more information.

In China they are selling 360k Toyota Corollas. The plant you mentioned has capacity for 216k engines.

I've also called Lexus Corporate and was handed off to someone with technical information on the CT200h manufacturing. He confirmed that the CT200h engine is built at the Kyushu/Kokura plant.

Hookah.. It seems as you are a real car person. I appreciate that you are sharing your enthusiasm here, but honestly I've read several things from your posts that are wrong. Another I can think of right now is saying there is an oil change at 5k miles. I hope you will take more time to verify some of the things you post about if you are not 100% sure.

I glad you shared the post on the puddle lights and it has some great info for people wanting to disassemble the mirror. You did post about it in more than one thread though, which seems overkill.

G'day, mate. This forum is generally friendly and a lot of good fun and advice. However, sometimes the advice is well-intended but ill-informed. Firstly, the CT Hybrid Drive in your CT was NOT made in China but Japan, so forget all about that nonsense. Secondly, most cars these days are fitted with electronic sensors that adjust the timing within a range to adjust to different grades of petrol. For example, in the outback, you might have no option but to fuel your car with lower grade petroleum. Finally, to properly allay your concerns, why don't you speak to the service manager at any Lexus dealer, preferably the one from whom you bought the car, and get all the facts straight to set your mind at rest? Meanwhile, I doubt you have done your car any harm.

Wriggle around it anyway you please but the inference is that Australia is one such third world country. Not that one should take offence, Americans generally believe that the rest of the planet is a third world country.

You stand correct, the vehicle is made in Japan at the Lexus plant. All ct200H got the 2ZR engines just like in Prius which is made in Tientsin, China; regardless from which market you buy the ct200H you get the 2ZR family engine.

Could you call Lexus directly? 1-800-255-3987 and ask them? Option 3 for general questions. Ask if you can speak to specialist about Lexus manufacturing. Ask where the engine is made for the CT200h.

Assume you mean the gas tank and not the oil tank. If the gas tank, no problem. The car will self adjust. If it's the oil tank, the octane is not your biggest problem.
