The update is now available. The going rate seems to be $169 and you must visit a dealer to get it installed (another $65, maybe).

Anyone think that it's worth it? It's not $300, but it's still not cheap! I know that it's just a data update, but I'm the sort of person that usually wants to keep things current. What to do; what to do!!

I say it depends on what was actually updated in 11.1.. if its worth it (or important) to you, then do it.. but for many people, its probably not worth it

Here's the release notes for 11.1:

http://www.lexusnavigation.com/pdf_docs/2011_Release_Notes_GEN5_GEN623092011144147.pdf

Something which they dont mention are the points-of-interest and what actually gets updated aside from the actual maps (for example, hardware firmware updates, updates and new POIs added, POI categories, etc)

I know the Honda/Acura updates used to include firmware updates occasionally. I didnt update for like 4 or 5 years, but it was a pretty big difference when I did update (faster operation, new POI categories), not to mention the area where I live did have lots of new roads and developments over the course of 4-5 years

I usually wait 3-4 years to update. The only reason people update sooner is if they have moved in a new house in a new area and they weren't on the original distribution.

Now iff 11.1 would unlock the system so you could use it when the car was in motion if you say "I Agree" to the dangers. Like Honda, then it would be worth the upgrade.

I would pay big bucks to upgrade if Lexus would open up their nav system so it would be operational while in motion. I hate to say how dissapointed I am with the Lexus navigation compaired to the navigation in my Acura. I'm so spoiled not to mention how hard it is to go backwards in technology. The Lexus voice recognition is lacking as well and it's slow, too.

What does that cost? $185 plus $150-$200 installation ? Right now it is okay for me to pull over for a nav destination and on the phone I can dial through voice dial or previous history-- but not contacts list ..go figure ..and my phone usage is minimal. If I understand you correctly Dozier42 you have a much more legitmate need for nav addresses on the go and phone numbers dialing --different computer clients each day.:)

Do you have a link to this navigational bypass hardware so I can do a little research on it? Thanks for your help.

For info on the Nav Bypass, just do a search for 'BeatSonic' on this forum (or others).

Yes, the cost was about $185, and I'm not sure on the cost to install, but they did have to go pretty deep in the dash.

Worth every penny to me!

I use the vehicle in my on-site computer repair business, so we're going to 3 new destinations each day. At the start of the day I use Enform to 'beam' down the three addresses, but if they're not on the first page of folders, or not on the first page inside the folder, I have to pull over to just 'page down' (a button above the joystick). Extremely silly! Of course it takes a couple minutes to download the destinations once I'm in the car, and of course I'm already on the road and driving by that time and don't want to stop. :\

Can't get to the various folders on my 32gb USB thumb drive, etc.

It's just waaaay too much of a lockout IMHO, and mine is GONE GONE GONE!

Hey guys, i have a dumb question so excuse my ignorance but i want your opinion... What setting you guys use for the nav... quick short or alternate? I have used all 3 and it take me on the weirdest paths. Anyone experience this too?

Apparently a very rigorous update. I guess I will pass if instant disappearance is even a possibility.
Maybe it was so good that he was transported to a higher plane of existence... for $169, it might be worth it! That's a super upgrade...

Awesome! Glad to hear it...

Does it do a software update on the system too (i.e. like a flash update to the brain to add new features and get rid of bugs)?

The European Site does not even have the CT listed so cant even check if up to date or note.

LEXUS Navigation Map Updates

That's poor Lexus! :(
Even with updated maps, the Lexus navigation it terrible and lagging so far behind the industry standard. I like my $200 Garmin GPS (with lifetime maps) far better than my 2 grand built-in Lexus navigational system -- and that's including their voice recognition as well. I kick myself every time I see the nav screen pop up for spending all that money from something so poorly done. Shame on Lexus -- I thought they were leaders and innovators.
