Was anyone else told by their dealer to expect a 2012? The way it was explained to me a 2011 was not even in the cards for me. Ordered a month ago today I am looking at September for my 2012.

wow - interesting! I was hoping to order mine this week, but to wait until september may not be in the cards for me... I'll have to see what's in transit, etc, as "my dealership" mentioned that they will see cars in 5-6 weeks. Given they are not custom configurations, that's reasonable.

He mentioned that due to the crisis in Japan, they have put a hold on May production to get out all the March - April orders. I would imagine that there are many manufacturers that produced 2011 model parts that were affected and were forced to seize production.... even though the 2011 and 2012 models I can imagine will be virtually the same and they will resume production in June-July (assuming his information was correct).

So... instead of creating VINs for 2011 model vehicles that won't arrive until the fall... Lexus may have opted to simply create VINs to be applied towards the 2012 model year, even though the cars themselves will be virtually identical.

When you think about March production orders being delivered in July, you have to agree that it makes sense to just seize production of 2011 models earlier than expected... this will avoid the dealerships being stocked with 2011 models and having to sell them at a discount and nearly completely eliminate their profit margins.

I have no idea though - simply speculating lol

That makes sense! September is only about 8 weeks away since we are creeping right up on July 1. I am looking forward to getting the call that she is on her way!

I do believe u guys are correct. No more orders are being taken for 2011 ct's My dealer won't even take an order. They don't have any info on the 2012's as of last week. He said there are not going to be many changes except for some new colors, and for god sake give us some wheel options!! And by the time September and October role around, there should be a lot more of these cars available and orders will be filled much faster. So I got to hold off until the 12's are in production. Keeping fingers crossed for f-sport model!!

May I add though, he was still able to try to find me a car I want. It may not be the exact car because it would not be built to order for me but he could get it close. He said it would take him 2-3 months. A good dealer will try to find a car for u. Fall is just around the corner. Why not wait til then to get the exact car u want in the 2012. Plus they might add some cool new colors and take care of some of the little issues that come with the 2011's. i.e. Passenger door handle, satellite radio issues, ect. But that is just my opinion.

I have ordered my CT on June 9 and was told by my dealer in Ontario, Canada that I will get a 2012 model in October. I also hope that they will fix some of the problems like i.e. Passenger door handle, satellite radio issues, ect.

I would wait... but consider 2 factors.

1. I am impatient ( notice this is factor# 1 :p )

2. not to get into detail, but my current car gets MAYBE 300km to the tank... and I put 94 oct every fill. Over the last year i've driven about 2800km per month (though this will change in January).

When it's all said and done, I will save $450 a month in the new CT (this is basing on an average 700km/tank and 35L of fuel each fill up). I could buy now and get the touring package, or buy in 4 months and get the base model and it will cost me the same. :) So I would opt to just buy the base 2011 now if I can.

My dealer told me the 2012 models are scheduled for September. That means they gear up production for them in July. That being said, the tsunami may have changed everything. Since we are on a list for "closest match" I guess what year model you end up with depends on when you match with what comes off the truck. I verified with at least a half a dozen delers that Lexus is not accepting orders at this time. Dealers are simply matching customers with what inventory they get. NOTE: not all regions get every color combination. Hopefully at some point inventory will begin to catch up. My dealer said what they generally do is trade with a dealer who has what you want. Currently there is no inventory to trade with or for. Since I'm on the list, and quite a ways down, I guess I'll get a 2012. I don't mind, hopefully they will have addressed the arm rest issue and passenger door handle.

I wonder what the price difference will be with the 2012.

won't even take an order? not good, and I need a new car and this is the car lol. sick of getting 300km per tank... :(
That's a dealer by dealer basis. The dealer I obtained mine from is still taking orders. Makes no sense to me that a dealer would not want to fulfill any new orders. It's a lose-lose situation.

The dealer can and will take your order, along with your deposit. He just can't submit it to Lexus. The best he can do at this point is match you to what inventory he gets. I hope this loosens up with the 2012 models. 2 months ago, I was told 60-90 days. Submit it to Lexus and they build it for you. I hesitated....I'm not sure if this change is because they are so far behind in production or because of the model year change.

Hope they don't raise the price, otherwise, I might be stuck with a Prius or Civic hybrid.
I hope not either, although I somehow doubt it... clearly the price is what is selling these cars. It's a luxury car for a non-luxury price (considering the prius starts at only 3k less)... they seem to be targeting a younger market as a long term investment in a new client base. The younger market (speaking from my own perspective) is also in the market for a first home, and then thinking of children.

With all those new costs added up, I don't mind paying an extra 3k for a lexus. Not sure if I would pay much more for the same power train / less fuel efficiency than the prius. Lexus should realize that I'm probably not the only one.

In the States the price difference between the Prius/Civic and Lexus is 6K, that premium is a bit of a stretch, not from an affordability stand point but from a value proposition. Don't know what other car out there cost 30K and gives you 0-60 around 10 sec. To me, Lexus nameplate and handling is what determines if the difference is worth paying the difference.

And besides, the original intent of the CT was for the European countries, where hatchbacks are much more popular. They really limited inventory to the US to begin with, and then the earthquake happened too, which made an already awkward situation worse for stock in the US. The US was definitely not Lexus' first priority with the CT release.
