Excuse me if this has been discussed but what is the simplest way to get a 12v supply to a camera by the reversing mirror (and not by a cord from the lighter socket).
Just am about to go to an auto electrician but would appreciate a heads up from someone who has had it done!
Thanks

I can't answer your question, but I can tell you that it's simple to run a cord from the lighter socket down to the passenger footwell, above the passenger footwell plastic behind the glove compartment, tucked behind the rubber doortrim up the door to the lower windshield, between the pillar & the windshield glass, around the windshield, then to the camera. The only place the wire is visible is on the extreme side of the dash over the speaker & for small sections to either side of the passenger footwell.

The other problem of course, is whether that lighter socket is already used to power something else, in which case a splitter box works well & is unobtrusive stuck to the side in the passenger footwell.

Pull off that plastic cover that comes down from the headliner to the rear view mirror. You will find a bunch of wires with connectors for the mirror auto dimming. There is a company that makes short connectors for radar detectors that you can find if you google it and they even have instructions for finding a 12 v power source and a ground, but a simple test light will find the right connector and then you just shove the wire in there and put the cover back on. You can break that cover if you aren't careful, but as long as it is under warranty and you take the wires out before you go, they will probably replace it for you. The voice of experience speaks. The top of the cover comes down and then you have to pull up or the tabs will break off. Not hard but very hard to describe. Just go slow.

Here is a page from Escort's website that mentions their blendmount, but there are others: BlendMount - Escort Inc.

once again terrible advice.

you can easily pull down the map light assembly. you can easily pull it down with a moulding tool. the assembly is held in place by clips. if you have the repair manual ($20 on ebay) for the car you'll see the wiring diagram where you can tap a 12V source.

t
he instructions in the repair manual are quite clear.

telling someone you take their chances, maybe break something, and then take in it for replacement under warranty is stupid. that map light assembly won't just break on it's own. i'd like to see you explain it to lexus that it just snapped on it's own and see if they replace it. STUPID.

if you want to listen to experience look at my posting. i have actually removed that assembly. i'm not just talking out of my ***.

i know i'm going to get an argument. pics or it didn't happen. show your pics or don't call yourself experienced. stupid.

You need to take your meds immediately before you hurt yourself or someone else. I am amused at anyone that puts lights UNDER their seat calling anyone else STUPID. It has been my experience that most people who call others stupid need a mirror to find the truly challenged person. Seriously, get your anger under control. This is a forum for opinions on a car, not a life and death thing. I have managed to find a power source without removing the light assembly, but I admit that I haven't found the need to install a light for the pretzels and crumbs that have fallen under my seat. Sorry about my lack of experience. You have a great day!

wow. truly the blind leading the blind.

under seat lights are for my passengers getting into the rear seats. it's a courtesy.

i can't believe how people are siding with stupidity. Joe tells someone that "You can break that cover... they will probably replace it for you". Lexus is NOT going to replace a plastic cover that YOU broke. that cover will not spontaneously break by itself so why the F would Lexus replace it for you. stupid.

why don't you people think before you handing out +1s

no wonder i don't come on this forum any more.
