    Phone Contacts Lost

I now have had the second instance of losing all my phone contacts stored in the car's memory.

I use an iPhone 3GS and this mornint connected to the car via Bluetooth with no problems and when I went to make a phone call and click on "contacts" it said that there were no contacts stored

Has anyone else run into this problem or is just me?

I checked my wife's Nokia which is also registed to the car and her phone contacts were still there.

i have the iphone 4 and havent had any issues at all... have you downloaded the latest OS updates for it? Also in your phone, click on the car multimedia or whatever you have your CT listed as and make sure share contacts is turned on in the bluetooth setting for it.

My iPhone 3Gs is up to date with software.

I've had the car 4 months and this is the second time this has happened that all of the contacts stored in car's phone directory have gone missing. Also what has also disappeared is all the call history too.

I know its no big deal, when you click on contacts the message pops up asking if you want to transfer the contacts from the phone and that works fine. It's just a PITA to have to go throught the setting up of all my speed dials.

I am experiencing the same problem but I have an IS250 and an iPhone 4s with iOS 5.0.1. The problem has occurred about 6 times since I bought the car in September 11. I originally had an iPhone 3GS and it happened once during this period. I have noticed that it has become more frequent since I have had the 4S. I orginally thought that any updates to the phone i.e iOS updates resulted in this problem, BUT after spending hours trying to solve this problem I have found the following:

    1. You can replicate the problem, i.e. cause a loss in contacts, speed dials and call history by turning your phone off, starting the car, then turning the phone on. So if your phone is not on before you start your car, the phone book etc will be erased. This happens every time.
    2. thought that if you started your car and you had no phone signal, this would erase your phonebook but I have since proved that this is not the case
3 I have synced my phone then turned off 'sync phone' in my iPhone bluetooth settings and prevented (1) from occuring for about an hour and two start ups/ journeys but then everything got erased again on the 3rd start up
    4. My fathers iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.0 has the same problem described in (1)
    5. My girlfriends iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 which is synced with my car has not been used in the car for over 2 months, but when I linked it today it still had her phonebook, speed dials and call history. This proves that there is no specific time frame to this problem

I would be interested to see if anyone else experiencing this problem, also experiences any of the above

I tried it out and yes it did wipe out my contacts! Looks like it's not just an issue with the CT200h.

I have a question about your IS250, what year is it and does it support separate phone contacts for different paired phones? I previously had a 2007 IS250 and although you could store multiple paired phones it only supported a single phone book.

I had reported the problem to Lexus Australia and the technical person I spoke to said he had heard of one other occurence. I rang him back this morning and he told me the problem has now been forwarded onto Japan. I updated him on how the problem could be reproduced. He said he doesn't expect to get a response until some time next month.

My money is definitely on it being a software bug!

My IS250 is a 2011 model with different a separate phonebook for each phone. We also have a 2007 model like the one you had and because this does not have a separate phonebook for each phone, it doesnt have this problem!

I look forward to hearing what your dealer comes up with!

    thank you for your reply

Thank you, IS250, for finding out how to replicate this problem. I am sure it will go a long way toward getting an ultimate solution (if anyone at Lexus or Apple cares one bit). I can now show them exactly what the problem is.

The reason this makes no sense is that all the power outlets on the Lexus are switched, which means that if you leave your phone in the car (as I do, I answer enough times during the day!), you pretty much have to shut it off to avoid running the power down. On my Ford, it was an always powered, so I could leave the phone on when I shut down at night.

Think I'll keep my old Samsung phone till Apple or Lexus figures this out, no problms with it.... Maybe by the time the IPhone 5 comes out next year this will be fixed

I think it may well be an iPhone related problem. I just tried bluetoothing an old Nokia N81 to my CT200h and went through the procedure above that I used with my iPhone to recreate the problem and everything was fine.

Anyone out there with a Blackberry or some other smartphone willing to see if the problem exists with their phone?
