Thread: Hybrid Battery Full Charge Indicator

    Hybrid Battery Full Charge Indicator

I used to own an RX400h with NAV. When displaying the energy screen on the NAV, if I got the hybrid/traction battery up to the point where it was fully charged, the battery level indicator would change from blue to green. I haven't been able to get the indicator on the CT200h to go green when I thought I got the battery up to fully charged. It stays blue. Has anyone else been able to do this, or was the full indicator change from blue to green not incorporated into the CT200h's energy display screen?

    Jim

Not sure about the change in color when fully charged, but I've noticed that my charge indicator level never goes above the positive (+) or negative (-) symbols on the battery icon. I saw somewhere in the manual that it should go all of the way up. Is anyone else experiencing this?

As I understand it, the hybrid battery never goes above about 90% or below 30% in order to increase longevity. On my Prius, that gauge was larger and thus much easier to read and it never went to full. There were several threads about it on that forum (Prius Chat) and some very knowledgeable posters said that was the design.

Seen completely full a couple of times in 10,000 miles. One time was a long downhill stretch coming down the Kangamangus this past summer. Engine never came on for a good 15 miles.

Same for me... It was usually when I was coming down a mountainside... I was at a lodge at the top of a mountain in Stowe, VT recently and was able to get what appeared to be full bars on the energy monitor when coming down the mountain a few times. I used "B" mode on the way down. I was disappointed that it didn't turn green on the NAV screen at that point. Maybe its a feature that they didn't build into the CT.

From what I've read in the past, the battery never charges above around 80% of its capacity when it shows full and has around 20~25% reserve left when it's down to one bar on the meter.

So yours never went "green" when coming down the Kangamangus?

I have had my CT almost a year and have only had the battery indicator reflect completely charged about 5 times, and the battery indicator has never changed to green.

Under normal circumstances the battery charge tops out at 60%. Normal range is between 50-60%. Under heavy stop and go traffic the battery will drop to 40% and the engine will come on to charge it back to 50%. The highest state of charge i've seen is about 68%. All of this data can be realized with a scan gauge device.
