Lexus is set to offer an adjustable drive mode system on their upcoming CT200h hybrid hatchback, similar to systems from automakers like Nissan and Subaru.

While other performance hybrids, like the Honda CR-Z, are content with Normal, Sport and Eco modes, the CT200h has all of the above, plus an EV mode. As you can infer by the names, Normal is the standard setting, while Eco dials back the air-conditioning and throttle response and Sport sharpens up the throttle and steering. Stability control and traction control systems are also dialed back to give drivers a bit more fun behind the wheel.

The EV mode is a bit more interesting, and allows drivers to drive for one mile under electric power, but at speeds of 25 mph or under – a pretty useless feature, but a promising glimpse of things to come from Lexus. Autoguide will be previewing the CT200h at the end of September, so stay tuned for our driving impressions.

As we stated in an earlier CT200hForum.com Front Page story, two pre-production prototypes of the Lexus CT 200h kicked off a World Preview Tour in Toronto, Canada on the last weekend in August 2010. True to Lexus' word, the Matador Red Mica and Obsidian cars will now be traveling in a long, protracted south and west itinerary through the United States.

We should remind you that the U.S. tour will be a bit different in nature from Canada's. The U.S. portion of the tour will not feature the live musical entertainment component of Canada's but will feature something even more compelling to the heart of the true car enthusiast: an opportunity to actually drive the CT 200h. In Lexus' own words, you can be among the first in the world to experience the new CT 200h prototype at a location near you. This is a true insider experience: you’ll be able to see the vehicle, drive it and, most importantly, share your opinion on the still-in-development prototype with our engineers and designers. Attend an event to explore the CT 200h in a sophisticated virtual setting, learn about the Lexus brand, test drive the prototype vehicle and more. Become part of the inside story of this brand-new Lexus!

This tour has the makings of being similar to previous Scion launches where the car is driven around the block in the vicinity of a hip, youthful and vibrant area of the city with an event employee riding shotgun. You must be 18 or over with a valid Driver’s License to drive. It appears that no advance registration is necessary. You merely show up and register for your preview drive.

After at least one false start, we now have full time, date and location information, but keep an eye on this story in case further information or updates become available.
After officially debuting the car at the Geneva Auto Show earlier this year, Lexus will release full details and specifications on the CT200h, the world's first premium hybrid compact, at the upcoming Paris Auto Show.

Info set to be released includes expected fuel economy numbers as well as performance stats and pricing. To date, Lexus has yet to even officially state what engine is in the CT200h, with possibilities including the Prius powerplant as well as the more powerful motor found in the HS250h. The HS gets 187-hp and gets a combined 35-mpg.

In addition to the CT200h info, Lexus will also showcase its new lineup of IS models for Europe, including a new turbodiesel IS200d model.

Hi there folks, I know the CT is still 8 months away from US showrooms, but just curious if it will make a tall driver like myself feel comfortable.

I'm all of 6'2" tall (188cm) with looong legs , 35 or 36" inseam (90cm), luckily under 200 lbs. I'm usually one of the tallest dudes in most rooms so to speak.

To give an idea, I don't like driver's seating in the 2009/10 Matrix - seat kinda short, reach to brake a little cramped, feels bit small in cockpit.

the new Prius, 2010+ seating pretty good (where's the sportiness?, hah) VW Jetta, Golf good. Honda Accord good, civic a little cramped.

Wondering if headroom and vertical visibility might be a bit tight for the really tall ones in the CT.

But, I love this idea of a sport hybrid hatchback - CT200h

thanks in advance. :D

A page from the Press Brochure issued by Lexus for the CT 200h world premiere at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show informed us that the vehicle would be "available in a choice of ten colours, of which two - Flare Yellow and Fire Agate - are newly developed". Yet, when shortly thereafter Lexus USA unveiled its CT 200h color palette on the Colors page of its dedicated darkersideofgreen.com microsite, only seven exterior colors were evident. These seven colors appear in a CT200hForum.com thread started by member TSoprano.

At this point, it is helpful to note that Lexus exterior colours receive different names in virtually every market in which its vehicles are sold and we should also note that the Lexus Europe site gives its colours names that are different from those used in the United Kingdom (Great Britain). thus, our listing below for the original 7 colours lists them below, in the same order, but, behind the colour names for the U.S. (and, presumably, Canada), we'll add their equivalent names in the Lexus Europe website, for the United Kingdom (Great Britain) and Oceania (Australia and New Zealand) markets, followed by the universally-used colour code. Please note that a number of these colours use multiple names within the same market (especially in Oceania) depending on model, and, in those cases, all the possible names are cited.
Starfire Pearl / White Pearl / Arctic (or White) Pearl / White Pearl / 077
Matador Red Mica / Morello Red / Mesa Red / Vermillion (or Burgundy or Red Mica Crystal Shine) / 3R1

So, what are the three exterior colours that will be available in Europe (and, most likely, Japan) that won't be offered in the United States? A new CT 200h Colours page on the Lexus Europe website answers this question. Before we get to the answers ourselves, though, a few clarifications are in order. Only 2 of the 10 colours are exclusive to Lexus CT. These colours were referred to in the original Press Brochure as Flare Yellow and Fire Agate, yet the Lexus Europe website now uses the Solar Yellow and Sienna Brown denominations. Are Flare Yellow and Fire Agate, then, names to be used in Great Britain? Or did Lexus simply decide against using these colour names? The answer is unclear at this point, but we should know closer to the car's on-sale date. Conversely, another point we should make very clear is that, common name notwithstanding, the CT 200h's Solar Yellow is not expected to be a reprise of the much-loved bright yellow shade of the same name that was available on 1st-generation Lexus IS models. Rather, the new Solar Yellow should be more of a mustard/gold hue reminiscent of the colour used in the Lexus LF-Ch concept car that previewed the Lexus CT 200h.

Here, then, are the three exterior colour choices that will be offered in Europe but not in the United States (and, probably, Canada). Again, we're listing the information as U.S. / Lexus Europe website / U.K. / Oceania / universal colour code:

Cerulean Blue Metallic / Silvery Blue / Cerulean Blue / Blue Pearl / 8U9
Ultrasonic Blue Mica / Ultrasonic Blue / Ultra Blue / Flame Blue or Ultrasonic Blue / 8U1
Black Opal Mica / Dark Opal / Obsidian Black / Elysium Black / 214

Although Black Opal might be close enough to Obsidian that it's no big loss for us in North America, the fact that such an eco-aware vehicle as the Lexus CT 200h is not offered in blue or green, colours that are widely seen as symbolic of the movement, is somewhat odd. While the color options are seemingly set in stone for the 2011 model year, here's hoping that Lexus reconsiders for 2012 and offers us those shades of blue. At the very least, a bold, bright, in-your-face Ultrasonic Blue would be very much in keeping with Lexus CT's purported sporty, enthusiast-friendly, darker side of green personality.

Beyond solving the mystery of the three extra exterior colours, the new Lexus Europe CT 200h Colours page also reveals the three wheel options available in Europe. Standard is a 15" five-spoke wheel which, while not unattractive in and of itself, its fairly flat face and tall tire sidewalls are too reminiscent of the current, 3rd-generation Toyota Prius' standard wheels. The first upgrade option is a set of 10-spoke, 16" wheels that, at a glance, appear similar to the widely seen and photographed 10-spoke, 17" wheels minus the curved alternating spokes. And those 17-inchers are, of course, the third and final factory upgrade. Unless, that is, Lexus sees fit to offer something more compelling as part of the F-Sport accessory line here in the States...

Insofar as interior options, it's near-certain that North America will also offer less choices than other markets. Other Lexus models sold in Japan certainly offer a plethora of interior options unavailable elsewhere (some under the L-Select banner) and it appears that Europe will offer, at a minimum, a black fabric (or, probably, microfiber as on the 2011 Lexus IS V6 F-Sport sedans) that won't be offered in the United States as an alternative to NuLuxe (faux leather) in Ecru, Black or Caramel, and genuine Leather in Black or Water Grey. The CT 200h black fabric/microfiber interior is shown below.
As early leaked reports indicated, Toyota is being exonerated after Congress pushed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reveal the preliminary findings of its investigation into the cases of "unintended acceleration" of Toyota vehicles.

A Department of Transportation investigation of the black box recorders in 58 Toyota vehicles involved in "unintended acceleration" crashes has revealed that in 35 of those cases the brakes were never engaged. In nine other cases the brakes were only applied immediately before impact. In five additional cases no data was recorded, while in five more it was shown that the brakes were applied early on. One incident showed that both the accelerator and brake were pressed.

Toyota did place a recall for a faulty mechanical brake pedal and for millions of vehicles with what could be improperly installed floor mats – the later which is believed to be a cause of the crash in at least one of the 58 vehicles investigated by NHTSA.

"The limited research completed so far has not led to identification of safety defects other than sticking gas pedals or pedal entrapment," reads the report, clearly indicating that faulty vehicle electronics are not to blame.

Results of the NHTSA investigation are not final and the government agency warns that it may still take months to look over all the vehicles in question.

During my visit yesterday in Torrance, I spotted two new CT200h prototypes at Lexus. This black one below was parked next to a Matador Red CT (it was driven away after I took these pics). These two CTs had all the options including navigation, Mark Levinson audio, radar cruise, park assist and all the goods. The Matador Red CT parked next to it had the high output LED headlamps. As much as we would like to see fully optioned CT200h here in the US, due to cost we will probably see most CT200h with the Lexus basics. That's not necessarily a bad thing as the pricing should be very enticing.
